Job Purpose


As the Business Development Manager for the Tampa Bay area, you will serve as the primary representative of m2e, responsible for building and nurturing strategic relationships, leading pursuit efforts, and generating new engineering opportunities. Your success will be measured by the acquisition of new revenue, the quality of gross profit contributions, and the strength and sustainability of the business development pipeline.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Originate Business: Drive business growth by generating and closing a minimum of $1.4 million in new-client revenue within the first year, focused on the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) and related sectors.
  • Own the Market: Serve as m2e’s lead representative across the Tampa Bay region, attending 20+ industry events per quarter. Gather and relay "voice-of-the-customer" insights to internal technical teams to inform service strategy and innovation.
  • Develop Strategic Relationships: Establish and cultivate a high-value network of industry stakeholders, including property managers, developers, construction attorney (defect), architects and contractors, to identify and advance new business opportunities.
  • Advance Deals: Lead the full business development lifecycle—from discovery and proposal strategy to fee negotiation and seamless handoff to account management. Maintain a robust, 90-day rolling pipeline at 3× quota to support sustained growth.
  • Ensure CRM Discipline: Utilize Zoho CRM to track all business development activities. Maintain a minimum of 90% data hygiene and consistently report on progress and metrics during weekly BD huddles.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with the Marketing team to develop compelling pursuit collateral and coordinate closely with Engineering Directors to align project scope, pricing models, and delivery strategies.
Requirements

Professional Qualifications

  • 5+ years of business development, sales, or client-facing experience in professional services, AEC, or technical consulting industries.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding annual sales targets of $1M+, ideally with complex, relationship-based sales cycles.
  • Strong existing network within the Tampa Bay AEC ecosystem—including      developers, architects, general contractors, and property managers—is      highly preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills; confident leading      high-stakes conversations with senior decision-makers.
  • Ability to build and manage a robust sales pipeline, with strong CRM proficiency (Zoho, Salesforce, or equivalent) and data discipline.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite. 
  • Strategic thinker with high business acumen, capable of identifying market trends      and translating them into actionable opportunities.
  • Willingness to travel locally to attend events, meet clients, and maintain a visible presence in the market (up to 25–40% of the time).

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Marketing, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of building forensic or MEP consulting services.
  • Involvement in NAIOP, ULI, BOMA,  ABC, AGC, CAI, TMI or similar associations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in identifying, qualifying, and closing high-value B2B deals in competitive markets.
  • Ability to lead complex sales cycles from discovery to negotiation and close.
  • Proficient in developing go-to-market plans and account targeting strategies.
  • Familiarity with the AEC or professional services landscape, including project delivery models and client procurement behaviors.
  • Ability to translate technical services into compelling business value for diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a natural ability to build trust and rapport with decision-makers across multiple disciplines—developers, architects, GCs, property managers, and attorneys.
  • Adept at maintaining long-term relationships and expanding account footprints through ongoing engagement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering persuasive presentations and proposals tailored to different audiences.
  • Confident and polished in high-stakes client meetings, events, and panel discussions.
  • Ability to evaluate market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to uncover new opportunities.
  • Financially literate with the ability to understand project economics and pricing strategy.
  • Proficiency in Zoho CRM (or equivalent); ability to maintain accurate and actionable data.
  • Skilled in managing a healthy rolling pipeline, tracking metrics, and reporting results with discipline and clarity.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with marketing, engineering, and operations teams.
  •  Ability to bridge commercial strategy with technical execution, ensuring smooth project handoffs and aligned client expectations.
  • Highly self-directed with strong organizational skills and a proactive mindset.
  • Resilient in the face of rejection and persistent in driving toward goals in dynamic environments.

Physical Demands* 

Necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectively:

  • Ability to sit with back at a 90-degree angle for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to look at a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to stand upright for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas (uneven terrain, exposure to outdoor weather elements)
  • Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, laying, crawling, and twisting required up to 30% of the time in this role.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to use right and left foot for repetitive movements as in operating controls or levers.
  • Full dexterity of wrists and fingers required with repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to see near, in the distance, color, depth, and range.
