Professor, Building and Expanding Your Digital Presence

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music seeks a part-time professor in our Professional Development Department to teach PDV 220 Building Your Digital Presence and PDV 221 Expanding Your Digital Presence beginning in Fall 2025. PDV 220 and 221 are two separate 1-credit, half-semester module courses that will run from September 2, 2025 through December 15, 2025


PDV 220: 14 load hours over 7 weeks (Fall semester) 

PDV 221: 14 load hours over 7 weeks (Fall semester)


Rate of Pay for 2025-2026 Academic Year: $148.51/hr


These courses will be taught in person. No aspect of the course will be taught online or in a hybrid format.

PDV 220 equips students with the essential tools to build and manage their professional online presence as a musician. Students will learn the basic principles of establishing a brand/identity online, how to get started on each platform, and how to think about using these tools to create a marketing strategy. Topics currently covered include:

  • Branding and online image/identity
  • Target Market Audience
  • Designing and launching a website using platform tools
  • Social media presence and marketing (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.)
  • Email marketing and creating funnels
  • Creating a digital marketing campaign

PDV 221 builds on the principles taught in PDV 220. In this class, students will learn about content marketing and deepen their content marketing strategy designed to expand their digital presence. Topics include advanced social media strategy, copywriting, basic SEO and website optimization, analytics, and optimizing content for social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Patreon, Substack, and LinkedIn. Students will create and execute a multi-channel marketing campaign from strategy to execution to analytics. Topics include:

  • Advanced website tools
  • Analytics and enhanced SEO
  • Google Ads and other, similar outlets
  • Establishing brand partnerships
  • Monetization strategies
  • Basics of media design and editing 
  • Advanced social media strategy
  • Staying current on emerging trends in digital marketing for musicians

This course is eligible for revision due to the ongoing evolution of the industry and the instructor’s subject-matter expertise, which together create an opportunity to ensure the course content remains relevant and continues to develop meaningfully over time.

Requirements

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (music or education strongly preferred)
  • Professional experience and deep knowledge within digital marketing
  • Clear understanding of freelance, entrepreneurial, and/or independent contractor career paths
  • Knowledge of best practices in self-marketing and launch strategies
  • Based in The Bay Area/able to travel to San Francisco for in-person instruction
  • Strong communication skills and engaging classroom leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Experience with Google Suite including Google Classroom
  • Knowledge of multiple career paths within different musical genres an understanding of the unique challenges inherent in crafting a career within each one
  • Professional experience as a musician
Salary Description
$148.51 per Hour
