Background:
OKBEI currently partners with non-profit agencies, hospitals, community organizations that are delivering health and education services to expectant families in Tulsa. Oklahoma Birth Equity Initiative (OKBEI), a fiscally sponsored organization at the Tulsa Community Foundation (TCF) that works to equip families to have healthy births with dignity and reduce maternal health disparities. Role Overview:
The Hospital Quality Improvement Coordinator will be responsible for supporting hospital initiatives led by Oklahoma Birth Equity Initiative (OKBEI), working directly with hospital/clinic staff to achieve quality improvement goals. This role is responsible for coordinating quality management efforts including education, development, implementation, and analysis by creating sustainable quality improvement (QI) plans for local hospital systems.
Essential Duties:
- Implementing change practices within health systems to address health inequities and improve health outcomes in maternal health
- Explore and test innovative ways to promote the adoption of evidence-based quality measurement at the provider level
- Responsible for supporting health care systems to improve the quality of health care delivery for maternal health patients
- Provides technical assistance for partner clinical sites to implement QI for clinical systems changes, as well as policy, systems, and environmental change strategies
- Provide a structural analysis of systemic and historical racism and the resulting health inequities and apply this lens to their work, tailoring coaching and QI activities to this analysis.
- Conduct data collection and analysis in order to review and provide information on success of current QI plans
- Conduct best practice testing including collecting, tracking, analyzing and interpreting data
- Develop and maintain working relationships with providers and birthing hospitals in order to support continued QI efforts
- Serve as a resource to other staff members on current QI initiatives
- Participate in interdisciplinary and/or interagency meetings as required
- Performs duties other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in health administration or health related field
- Experience in healthcare setting and quality management
- Experience improving processes or outcomes, ideally through quality improvement practices
- Experience with partnership/relationship management, especially with prior experience coordinating different stakeholders
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of QI principles, practices, methods and tools
- Time management skills, including ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment
- Ability to collect, track, verify, analyze and interpret data
- Ability to project management skills including planning, tracking, assessing and follow through on plan execution
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to deliver effective, actionable feedback to staff, hospital teams and partners
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Position frequently requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Position continually requires the ability to talk and hear both in person and over the phone, visual acuity; ability to operate equipment, read, and use a keyboard
Hours and Location
Work primarily at the OKBEI office in Tulsa, 8:00am-5:00pm, with some off-site meetings. Some days will require flexible hours, with either an early start or a late finish. Occasional weekend work to respond to urgent issues and/or logistical support for weekend engagements and events may be required.
