The Opportunity

We're seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and team-oriented Assistant Coach to support our Girls Varsity Volleyball program. This part-time, seasonal role requires a true passion for the sport, a deep commitment to educational-based athletics, and a sincere interest in mentoring young athletes. You'll work closely with the Head Coach, assisting in all aspects of the program, from practice planning and match preparation to player mentorship and overall team development.

Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Practice Leadership: Assist the Head Coach with daily practices, team meetings, and match preparation 5–6 days per week during the season.
  • Dynamic Training: Contribute to the planning and execution of engaging, challenging, and dynamic training sessions.
  • Culture & Values: Model and reinforce a team culture rooted in respect, accountability, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Match Day Support: Provide dedicated support to student-athletes during matches, tournaments, senior celebrations, and crucial CIF/NCS playoff competitions.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with athletic department staff, including trainers, equipment managers, and facilities personnel, to meet all team needs.
  • Compliance: Monitor and ensure strict adherence to all University High School, Bay Counties League–West, and North Coast Section rules and policies.
  • Student Supervision: Provide active supervision and guidance to student-athletes at all team functions, including travel, warm-ups, and post-match activities.
  • Safety & Wellness: Support and accurately document injury protocols, including proper reporting and follow-up for injured athletes.
  • Program Development: Participate in athletic department meetings and contribute to the ongoing development and success of the volleyball program.

Who You Are

  • Experienced Coach: You have prior coaching experience at the club, high school, or collegiate level.
  • Volleyball Expert: You possess a deep understanding of the fundamentals and strategies of competitive volleyball.
  • On-Court Participant: You have the ability to demonstrate and actively participate in drills when needed.
  • Skilled Communicator: You exhibit strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Youth Development Focused: You have experience working effectively with student-athletes in an educational or youth development setting.
  • Positive Environment Creator: You can create a positive, structured, and fun training environment that caters to a wide range of skill levels.
  • Certified (or Ready To Be): You hold, or are willing to obtain, current CPR and First Aid certifications prior to the season.

Compensation

This is a seasonal, part-time position with a compensation range of $5,000 – $8,000.
