About the Role
As a Girls Lacrosse Assistant Coach, you'll be an integral part of our program, supporting the Program Head in shaping the athletic and personal growth of our student-athletes. This seasonal, part-time position, running from February to May, is about fostering a deep love for the game and modeling our values of integrity, teamwork, and sportsmanship at either the Varsity or Junior Varsity level.
We're looking for someone who is passionate about teaching the game, building a healthy and inclusive team culture, and serving as a collaborative member of the UHS community.
What You'll Do
- Support Program Development: Assist the Program Head in the daily operations and overall development of the Girls Varsity or JV Lacrosse team.
- Deliver Engaging Practices: Help plan and lead effective training sessions that build technical skills, tactics, rules, and game strategies appropriate for the team's competitive level.
- Cultivate a Positive Team Culture: Promote a growth mindset, model exemplary sportsmanship, and encourage leadership, accountability, and mutual respect among players.
- Ensure Compliance & Safety: Uphold and model all BCL, NCS, NFHS rules, and school policies, maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all student-athletes.
- Collaborate Broadly: Work effectively with the Varsity Head Coach, athletic trainers, strength & conditioning staff, and other members of the department. Maintain open communication with players, parents, faculty, and administrators.
- Champion UHS Athletics: Integrate the school’s athletic philosophy, mission, and core values into every aspect of the program, reinforcing the educational value of sports.
- Inspire Joy & Enthusiasm: Create an environment where players genuinely enjoy practice and competition, cultivating pride, excitement, and a strong sense of belonging within the team.
- Provide Mentorship: Offer consistent leadership and mentorship to student-athletes.
Who You Are
- Experienced Coach: Proven playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, college, or elite club level is required. A minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level is preferred.
- Lacrosse Expert: Comprehensive understanding of NFHS rules and regulations for girls lacrosse, with a strong grasp of player development strategies, in-game decision-making, and lacrosse-specific conditioning.
- Student-Athlete Advocate: Awareness of adolescent development, with the ability to build trust, communicate effectively, and serve as a positive role model.
- Collaborative Team Player: Ability to support a head coach’s vision, take initiative, demonstrate leadership, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- Certified: Hold valid CPR and First Aid certifications, and NFHS Coach Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Personal Attributes: Positive, enthusiastic, and passionate about working with high school athletes. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, committed to fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Responsive, adaptable, and acts with integrity, humility, and professionalism.
Position Details
This is a seasonal, part-time coaching position. The compensation range is $5,000 – $8,000, commensurate with experience and team assignment (Varsity or JV).
