POSITION SUMMARY:   

The DME role is a hybrid role that combines durable medical equipment (DME) fitting with clinical support duties. This position supports orthopedic care by properly fitting and educating patients on prescribed equipment while also ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the office. Approximately 50% of this role is dedicated to hallway and patient-facing responsibilities, and 50% to technical and equipment-related tasks.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Fit and apply orthopedic DME as directed by the provider.
  • Educate patients on usage, care, and expected outcomes of prescribed equipment following manufacturer and physician instructions.
  • Obtain and complete necessary documentation per payer requirements and regulatory guidelines (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid).
  • Explain patient financial responsibility and insurance coverage; collect patient payments when applicable.
  • Maintain proper inventory and organization of DME supplies.
  • Greet and escort patients to and from X-ray and exam rooms.
  • Assist with obtaining vital signs and entering accurate information into the EMR system.
  • Monitor hallway activity and ensure timely patient movement to support clinical flow.
  • Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and support the clinical team with daily tasks.
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive patient experience.
  • All other tasks assigned.


HOURS:

  • Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM.
  • One weekend shift per month

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  

  • Two years of experience in a medical office, orthopedic, or patient-facing role preferred
  • Prior experience with DME fitting is strongly preferred; training available for qualified candidates
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CPR certification required or must be obtained upon hire
  • Certification as a CNA, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, or Lab Technician preferred
