Description

Purpose:

The Trenchless/Vacuum Excavation Specialist will support the Sales Department by preparing and delivering equipment—specifically directional boring rigs and vacuum excavation systems—to field locations. This includes conducting customer demonstrations and post-sale training on the operation & safety of trenchless technology, vacuum excavation, jetting, and pipe inspection systems. The role will collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Service & Parts departments to ensure customer satisfaction & equipment readiness.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain rigs in clean, organized, and operational condition, ready for job site deployment.
  • Coordinate with the Service Department for any needed equipment maintenance or repairs and ensure timely completion.
  • Learn & adhere to best practices for directional drilling & trenchless operations as outlined by OEMs.
  • Conduct customer training on proper operational procedures and safety protocols.
  • Operate various equipment types, including: Directional boring rigs, Mud mixing systems, Vacuum trucks, Jetters, Pipe inspection cameras
  • Understand and communicate the key features and benefits of our equipment compared to competitor offerings.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of mud mixing & its role in the directional boring process.
  • Become proficient in the use and instruction of locating and guidance systems, including: Subsite Electronics, DCI Electronics, Ditch Witch locating systems, Underground magnetics


Requirements

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift at least 75 lbs.
  • Willingness and physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid CDL Class A license with tanker endorsement and DOT medical card (required for equipment transport).
  • Provide and maintain a basic set of hand tools for minor on-site repairs.
  • Attend and remain current on all manufacturer-required HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) training.
  • Successfully complete OEM online certification courses for HDD and vacuum systems.
  • Achieve proficiency in the use of OEM HDD training simulators (e.g., Jet Trac).
  • Support Sales Representatives with customer follow-up by:
  • Verifying training effectiveness in the field
  • Identifying and resolving equipment issues proactively
  • Promoting related tooling and accessories for drilling operations
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Wear appropriate PPE, including steel-toe/ANSI-rated work boots.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to other branches as needed, based on workload and customer demand.
  • Primarily weekday travel (Monday–Friday), with occasional weekend travel required for equipment preparation or demonstrations.
  • Must be available for overnight travel (multi-day trips may be required).
