Job Description

Become a Basketball Coach for the Winter 2026 season at the Beaverton YMCA for our semi-competitive high school boys league. This is a seasonal position that often leads to permanent part-time/full-time employment.


Season timeline: December 11th - Mach 15th


Age range: Coaching 9th-12th graders


Practices:  From Dec 11th - Jan 8th - All teams will practice for 90 min. on Tues, Wed, and Thurs from 6-7:30pm at The Beaverton YMCA.


Teams will practice twice a week for one hour on Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting Jan 13th - Mar 12th.


Games: Held on weekends at either The Courts on Millikan Way or the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Each team will play one game per date within the listed timeframes. 


Sat. Jan. 17 - Mittleman JCC (12:30 - 3:30PM)

Sun. Jan. 25 - The Courts (1 - 4PM)

Sat. Jan. 31 - The Courts (1 - 4PM)

Sun. Feb. 1 - The Courts (1 - 4PM)

Sat. Feb. 7 - Mittleman JCC (12:30 - 3:30PM)

Sun. Feb. 15 - The Courts (1 - 4PM)

Sat. Feb. 21 - Mittleman JCC (12:30 - 3:30PM)

Sat. Feb. 28 - Mittleman JCC (12:30 - 3:30PM)

Sun. Mar. 15 - The Courts (1 - 4PM)
 

- Must be available on Saturdays between 12-4pm, and Sundays between 1-4pm. Game times vary each week.


- You would coach one team with an average of 10 players per team.


- Practices take place at the Beaverton YMCA. 


Responsibilities
- Develop and implement basketball training programs for students of various ages and skill levels
- Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense
- Plan and conduct practice sessions to improve players' individual skills and team dynamics
- Provide guidance and support to players during games and competitions
- Evaluate players' performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement
- Create a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes sportsmanship and teamwork
- Ensure the safety of all players during practices and games


Experience
- Previous experience coaching basketball or working with students in a sports setting is preferred
- Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques
- Strong communication skills to effectively instruct and motivate players
- Ability to manage behavior and maintain discipline among players
- Experience in other sports or physical education activities (e.g., Judo, Martial arts, Cheerleading, Karate) is a plus
- CPR and First Aid certification is desirable

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
