Position Purpose/JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for direction and overall supervision of a group of preschool children. Performs activities that ensure the safety, involvement, and creativity of everyone in the group. Works cooperatively with the lead teacher to discuss and aid in the implementation of daily plans in accordance with the current curriculum. Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Classroom Teacher, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing Diocese approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Rate of pay: $15.00-$18 per hour (Depending on experience)
Part-Time: 29 hours per week or less, 5 days per week; when school is in session. (Current Schedule: 8:15-11:15 / 12:15-3:10)

General Duties
· Support the Teacher in providing developmentally appropriate early childhood education experiences across various subjects, including religion, art, music, literacy, science, and mathematics.
· Maintain a neat, safe, and organized classroom environment and assist in the upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.
· Administers, in collaboration with the classroom teacher, the early childhood curriculum in accordance with Diocesan goals and objectives.
· Assist students, colleagues, principal, and parents in creating a school climate that fosters growth in faith, academics, and citizenship.
· Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction, as well as student learning.
· Teach Catholic values and stories of faith with commitment in the daily curriculum.
· Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
· Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school’s standards and policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
· Supervise students in activities that take place outside the classroom during the school day, including those involving school transportation.
· Support the teacher with instruction and clerical tasks.
· Prepare materials and equipment for activities.
· Support the teacher in his/her immediate needs.
· Make photocopies.
· Collate paperwork.
· Record grades.
· Clean after a lesson or at the end of the day.
· Work with students in need of additional individualized help.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· We prefer a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholic prayers, holidays, and teachings.
· Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.
· Knowledge of Catholic Doctrine and witness of Gospel values
· Knowledge of early childhood school curriculum and concepts.
· Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
· Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively with the teacher.
· Ability to handle confidential and/or official information with discretion.
· Ability to engage in self-evaluation concerning performance and professional growth.
· Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB
Work with the teaching team in all activities, including but not limited to:
· Conduct daily small-group activities for an assigned group of children, sharing responsibility for large-group activities and using appropriate adult/child interaction strategies with all children
· Assume responsibility for a classroom at any given time
· Collects required anecdotes and information for required ongoing assessments
· Provide coverage for breaks for other staff members
· Supervise daily lunch and playground activities, field trips, and walks
· Promote individualized attention for children by freeing teachers from routine duties
Requirements
Qualifications:
· High school diploma and the ability to work with children.
· Must complete the Safe Environment requirements of the Rockford Diocese Virtus program.
· Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background check.
· Must be 21+ years of age
