Description

The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is seeking energetic, responsible, and caring individuals to join our team as Afterschool Program Counselors for the upcoming schoolyear. This is a part-time position ideal for those passionate about working with children in a fun, structured, and supportive environment. 


This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization just 5 miles west of New York City in the water front city of Perth Amboy. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility.


Under the guidance of the Childcare Program Director, the Afterschool Program Counselor will supervise and engage school-aged children by implementing developmentally appropriate activities that support their social-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in a safe, inclusive, and positive environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
  • Lead and assist with engaging activities, including games, arts & crafts, homework help, and group projects
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes social and emotional development
  • Conduct and maintain accurate daily attendance records
  • Maintain open and professional communication with parents, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Uphold all program policies, procedures, and licensing regulations
  • Assist with daily setup, cleanup, and organization of program space and materials
  • Model positive behavior and act as a role model for children
  • Respond effectively to behavioral or safety issues in accordance with training and program policies

Requirements
  • Experience in education/childcare; or working with children in a group setting
  • Ability to lead and participate in physical activities
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and adapt to individual children's needs
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, and flexible
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus (or willingness to obtain)
Salary Description
$15.49-$16.00/hour
