Description

The after-school care program is designed to provide quality supervision for students whose parents need after school childcare. Care is provided until all students are picked up by their parent/guardian at 6 pm. Hours for workers may vary depending on need for staff and workers must be flexible to work with students from ages 5-14. It is imperative for all workers to remain calm, positive and upbeat so as to provide a nurturing atmosphere for all students.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • To provide after-school supervision for students.
  • Observe, monitor, and participate in children’s play activities whether small group, whole group, etc.
  • During after-school care, workers will provide supervised playtime outside (weather permitting) to provide a sage and positive environment.
  • Efficiently redirect inappropriate student behaviors and implement the program discipline system to effectively monitor and guide proper student behavior.
  • Foster and support their spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Workers must be able to stand for extended periods of time and walk around supervising playground and classroom activities. Workers must be able to carry at least up to 10 pounds, as an ice cooler and radio are required for use. Some stooping, lifting, bending, crouching and reaching are required.
  • Checking students in and signing them out to approved adults. 
  • After-school care workers will need to communicate with the supervisor as well as parents regarding any problems that may arise during after-school care hours.
  • After-school care workers will be under the supervision of the director as well as the principal and will report any problems to the supervisor or principal.
  • Hours for positions vary, but usually include weekday afternoons and extended summer hours.
  • After-school care workers eligibility for employment is based on the principal's criteria and the 1-9 employment eligibility form.
Requirements
  • Work is performed mostly indoors in an environmentally controlled setting. Work is to be performed directly on school or parish campuses. Work from home is not permitted. Works frequently in close physical proximity to others and may encounter work in enclosed or tight spaces.
