SUMMARY

The Digital Coater Operator is responsible for setting up and operating digital coating equipment to enhance and protect printed products in accordance with job specifications. This position plays a key role in maintaining the high-quality standards Hatteras is known for. Over time, this role will also have the opportunity to train on and support digital embellishment processes, including spot varnish and foil applications using the ZRX Digital Embellisher.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up and operate the digital coater for preprinted jobs, ensuring proper quality and coating standards throughout each run
• Verify correct coating type is being used per the job ticket
• Read and understand all aspects of the job ticket and production requirements
• Apply AQ, UV, and soft-touch coatings as specified
• Demonstrate knowledge of different substrates, text weights, cover stocks, and synthetic materials
• Visually inspect coated sheets for defects such as streaks, scratches, wrinkles, roughness, or uneven coverage, and make adjustments as needed
• Ensure coatings are applied smoothly and consistently to the specified image areas
• Perform daily care of machinery, including proper start-up and wash-up procedures
• Coordinate with the Digital Pressroom Manager to prioritize jobs and adjust schedules to meet production deadlines
• Follow all safety policies and procedures at all times
• Use a hand jack to move heavy pallets and lift up to 50 lbs as required

ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

• Training on the ZRX Digital Embellisher
• Learning to apply spot varnish and foil enhancements
• Loading and prepping embellishment files (PDFs and layers)
• Developing skills in registration, foiling standards, and specialty finishing techniques

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED required
• Prior knowledge of graphic arts and/or the printing industry is preferred
• Working knowledge of digital printing or coating procedures is a plus
• Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn additional equipment
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Basic computer proficiency and strong attention to detail
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
