The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) represents over 1,700 companies in the U.S. and globally. Our members are the backbone of the global supply chain, transforming end-of-life products into the essential raw materials that power manufacturing and sustainability worldwide.
As the Vice President, Membership, you will not just manage a department; you will shape the community that is building a more sustainable future. You will lead a high-performing five-person team to design innovative strategies that expand our global footprint, deepen member engagement, and deliver undeniable value to the businesses making a difference every day.
The Role
We need a proactive, strategic thinker who combines data-driven sophistication with a passion for people. You will be equally comfortable presenting high-level growth strategies to the Board and diving into operational execution to get the job done.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Global Impact
- Architect the Vision: Set ambitious goals for membership growth, retention, and revenue that align with ReMA’s mission to promote safe, economically sustainable recycling.
- Expand the Footprint: Develop and launch targeted campaigns and lead-generation activities to attract members from key industry sectors across the global supply chain.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor global membership trends and economic shifts to recommend agile adjustments to our strategy.
Member Engagement & Value Delivery
- Data-Driven Innovation: Design acquisition and engagement strategies informed by deep data analytics, market intelligence, and lifecycle mapping.
- The Member Experience: Partner with cross-functional teams (Advocacy, Communications, Events) to ensure every member touchpoint—from our website to our national conventions—delivers impact and alignment with our mission.
- Operational Excellence: Collaborate with Finance and Operations to ensure integrity in dues billing, reporting, and data management.
Empowering Leadership
- Build the Culture: Coach, mentor, and supervise a professional team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous professional development.
- Grow Talent: Create individualized development plans and identify stretch opportunities to help your staff grow as future leaders in the association space.
- Ethical Stewardship: Ensure all membership practices reflect ReMA’s core values of ethical business conduct, inclusion, and transparency.
Who You Are
- An Experienced Leader: You have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within membership or business development. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a CAE or advanced degree is preferred.
- A Growth Driver: You have a proven track record of driving membership growth and program development in a trade association or member-based organization.
- A Tech-Savvy Strategist: You have expertise in CRM/AMS systems (NetForum preferred) and know how to analyze performance data to create actionable insights.
- A Credible Voice: You can win and maintain the respect of an impactful Board of Directors and volunteer leaders.
- Industry Aligned: While not required, familiarity with the recycling industry, manufacturing, or industrial trade associations is a strong plus.
Working Conditions & Benefits
- Compensation: Up to $200,000.
- Travel: Engagement matters. Expect 20-35% travel for chapter meetings, national events, and job site tours. You will have the unique opportunity to tour recycling plants and see the circular economy in action (safety gear provided!). This position operates in a professional office environment. While traveling to tour job sites, you could be exposed to general hazards that accompany recycling plants.
