Experienced CNC Setup Operator / CNC Machinist


Please note: This position requires CNC setup experience. Applicants with only machine tending or basic operator experience may not meet the requirements for this role.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machines for production, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, and first-piece prove-out. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, GD&T, job travelers, and setup documentation. 
  • Load and verify CNC programs, tooling lists, and setup sheets. 
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspection using precision measuring tools. 
  • Make tool wear offsets and minor program adjustments as needed. 
  • Troubleshoot setup, tooling, dimensional, and machine-related issues. 
  • Verify parts meet customer and quality requirements before releasing jobs to production. 
  • Work with Quality, Engineering, and Production leadership to resolve issues. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation, inspection records, and production notes. 
  • Train or assist operators once the setup is complete. 
  • Follow all safety, quality, and AS9100/ISO procedures. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Requirements

  

 

 

Required Experience

  • Prior experience setting up CNC machines is required. 
  • Ability to set up and run CNC mills and/or lathes independently. 
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand tolerances. 
  • Experience using micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, and other inspection tools. 
  • Ability to make offsets and troubleshoot dimensional issues. 
  • Understanding of tooling, speeds, feeds, fixtures, and workholding. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. 
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work independently. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or other precision manufacturing environments. 
  • Experience with Mazak, Doosan, Fanuc, or similar CNC controls. 
  • Experience with mill-turn, twin-spindle, live tooling, or multi-axis machines. 
  • GD&T knowledge. 
  • Experience with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems. 
  • CNC programming or program editing experience is a plus. 

Physical, Visual, and Manual Dexterity Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during the work shift. 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tooling, fixtures, and parts up to 50 lbs. as needed. 
  • Ability to bend, reach, squat, twist, and work around CNC machines and related equipment. 
  • Ability to use hands and fingers with precision to handle small parts, tools, inserts, gauges, fasteners, and measuring instruments. 
  • Manual dexterity required to install tooling, adjust fixtures, deburr parts, make machine offsets, and perform detailed inspection tasks. 
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, measuring tools, machine controls, and computer terminals. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, setup sheets, inspection reports, and machine/control screens. 
  • Visual acuity required to inspect parts, read fine measurements, identify part features, and detect defects or nonconformances. 
  • Ability to distinguish colors for purposes such as identifying tooling, inspection indicators, safety markings, material tags, work instructions, and quality documentation. 
  • Ability to hear machine operation sounds, alarms, and verbal instructions in a manufacturing environment. 

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a precision CNC machine shop/manufacturing environment. 
  • Employee will work around CNC mills, CNC lathes, multi-axis machining centers, saws, deburring equipment, inspection equipment, tooling, fixtures, and material handling equipment. 
  • The environment may include exposure to machine noise, coolant, oils, metal chips, sharp edges, moving equipment, compressed air, and varying temperatures. 
  • Personal protective equipment required, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves where appropriate, and safety footwear. 
  • Work requires frequent interaction with machine operators, setup personnel, quality inspectors, engineering, maintenance, and production leadership. 
  • The position requires adherence to all company safety procedures, quality procedures, housekeeping standards, and AS9100/ISO requirements. 
  • The employee must maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow proper lockout/tagout and machine safety practices where applicable. 

ITAR Requirement

  • Due to the nature of our work, applicants must meet ITAR compliance requirements. 
  • Candidates must be a U.S. Person, as defined by ITAR, which includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or other protected individuals under applicable regulations.

  • We are looking for someone who can walk up to a job, understand the setup requirements, prepare the machine, prove out the part, make necessary adjustments, and get the job ready for production. 
  • This role requires more than loading parts and pressing cycle start. 
  • Qualified candidates should have proven CNC setup experience.

Schedule

  • Day shift, Monday–Friday. 7am-3:30pm 
  • Overtime and occasional weekends as needed.

Salary Description
$24-$32/hour
