Position Summary

The HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC projects, including new construction, retrofits, and service contracts. This role requires strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients. The Estimator ensures all bids are timely, complete, and aligned with company standards and profitability goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, specifications, and project documents to determine scope of work.
     
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for ductwork, piping, equipment, and materials.
     
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment.
     
  • Solicit and review vendor/subcontractor quotes to support competitive pricing.
     
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to validate scope and constructability.
     
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
     
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and bid packages for submission.
     
  • Track bid opportunities, maintain estimating logs, and ensure deadlines are met.
     
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required.
     
  • Maintain databases of historical project costs and unit pricing.
     

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of estimating experience in HVAC or mechanical construction (commercial or industrial preferred).
     
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, installation methods, and mechanical codes.
     
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., Trimble, QuoteSoft, Bluebeam).
     
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
     
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.
     
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
     
  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
     
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
