POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Pre-Apprenticeship Instructor’s primary role is to deliver prepared instruction to students encompassing a variety of advanced manufacturing and other trade related concepts and skills. The YPAI is tasked with preparing and delivering quality instruction, student advising, and program support. The YPAI is responsible to prepare students to successfully transition into the manufacturing industry and advancing their careers through apprenticeship training.
The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:
• Ensure the safety and well-being of self and students in the classroom/shop and proactively address all safety concerns;
• Meet and communicate electronically with the PM prior to, during, and upon completion of course to discuss essential course information, ongoing needs and evaluations of the course;
• Ensure all instructional equipment, supplies, and materials, to include audiovisual equipment, lab equipment, is in proper working condition and instructional materials/aids, e.g. student handouts, etc. are available before class begins.
• Deliver the course material ensuring course objectives are completed within the allotted time and competencies are documented;
• Teach a variety of manufacturing related courses in the classroom/shop setting to include but not limited to: basic math, algebra, and introduction to applied geometry and trigonometry;
• Teach productive work habits and specialized skills as identified by industry to foster learning and career progression;
• Work effectively with students from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds;
• Administer, correct, and review quizzes, test, final exams, assignments, and papers as required for program and maintain security over all teaching materials; e.g., test, answer keys, answer sheets, and student grades. These materials shall not be improperly reproduced or distributed and must be immediately provided to the PM.
• Report student discipline problems to the PM and appropriate school and stakeholder representative;
• Brief students on AJAC handbook, evaluation processes and facilitate completion of that process.
• Return all reusable and unused course materials and immediately report equipment damage, loss or inoperability to the PM and local site representative (as appropriate); Daily ensure classroom is left neat and orderly.
• Keep ongoing inventory of all shop supplies. Prior to each quarter prepare supply list needed and place order.
• Provide the PM specific recommendations concerning the course, materials, equipment, facilities, etc. ensuring students are receiving rigorous instruction;
• Ensure all equipment is used properly and is not removed from classrooms or labs.
• Mentor and evaluate and treat students fairly and equitably at all times;
• Facilitate and coordinate industry related speakers and mentors;
• Enforce a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment, a hostile environment or comments that could be construed or reported as offensive;
• Monitors student attendance, performance, and academic progress and links students to academic support services.
• Be familiar and in compliance with State and Federal guidelines that deal with: equal opportunity in education and training programs, civil rights, equal opportunity for persons with disabilities, sexual harassment, and harassment and retaliation, internet security and physical security;
• Participate in instructor training activities, including but not limited to; diversity, facilities, procedures, and safety.
• Provide instruction for program orientations. (AMP)
• Participate in career fairs and other AJAC sponsored events for the purpose of student recruitment for programs.
• Coordinate weekly information sessions for potential students seeking to enroll into manufacturing academy programs.
• This position requires a minimum of a 1 years of experience instructing or leading youth programs and navigating students in training or educational pathways. Experience in employment readiness programs and workshop facilitation. An education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree preferred but not required. (Training will be provided)
• At least one year experience in youth program preferred
• Experience in working with at-risk youth and workshop facilitation.
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage and descale behavior problems
• Ability to deal with the multiple stakeholder and work toward common goals
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
• Ability to organize and supervise students in a safe environment
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (training will be provided)
• Must have transportation
