Description

This position works on the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids sports team and will be responsible for reffing youth basketball games at various Y locations, based on program demand. 


POSITION SUMMARY

The League Sports Official will be responsible for the refereeing and officiating of youth games. The League Sports Official will ensure a safe, fun area for members and participants to interact and enjoy. This position requires face-to-face leadership in the program and may involve early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities. Saturday availability is required, 8 AM to 5 PM.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follows Association safety procedures and protocols
  • Officiates games in a fair manner according to Association rules
  • Must demonstrate the ability to control all aspects of a basketball game
  • Works closely with league coaches
  • Ensures participants have fun

Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapid


COMPENSATION

$14.35 - $17.93 ; Part-Time, Non-Exempt (up to 25hrs/week)

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have reasonable knowledge of the game of basketball
  • Experience of one to two months of athletic or sports officiating is preferred.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles required.
  • Youth officials must have a desire to work with children and their parents/guardians.
  • Must be at least 14 years of age


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training
  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
