Key Responsibilities:
· Design, develop, and maintain COBOL applications and associated Unisys OS 2200 system components.
· Analyze existing code and implement schema changes, record layout updates, and new data elements to meet evolving business or regulatory requirements.
· Perform system integration and acceptance testing for mainframe applications and related interfaces.
· Support the development lifecycle from requirements analysis through production deployment.
· Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve defects or performance issues in complex COBOL codebases.
· Participate in Agile sprint planning and code reviews; contribute to configuration management and DevSecOps activities.
· Collaborate with analysts, testers, and configuration management personnel to ensure software quality and schedule adherence.
· Maintain system and technical documentation, version control, and compliance with enterprise quality standards.
Minimum Required Qualifications :
- Technical:
- 5+ years of professional COBOL full lifecycle (analysis-development-test-peer review) experience, with strong proficiency in Unisys COBOL.
- Hands-on experience with Unisys OS 2200 and Executive Control Language (ECL).
- Proficiency with Unisys Database or comparable mainframe database systems.
- Experience supporting enterprise transaction or financial systems on large-scale mainframes.
- Familiarity with Agile/SCRUM and Waterfall methodologies.
- Understanding of Rational Team Concert (RTC), GitHub, Jira, Confluence or other source control and lifecycle management tools.
- Demonstrated experience with software testing, including system integration, regression, and performance testing.
- Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Security / Clearance:
- Active IRS MBI clearance that has been aligned to an IRS contract within that last two years.
- US Citizenship required
- Must complete annual information security, privacy, and disclosure awareness training per federal IT standards.
- Ability to work in a secure government environment with PII data
Education and Certifications Required:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
Preferred Qualifications :
- IRS Badge and/or GFE (laptop)
- Basic knowledge of Java Enterprise technologies (e.g., JBOSS EAP 7.x, RESTEasy, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JUnit).
- Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines and tools such as Maven, Nexus, Jenkins, or OpenShift.
- Experience with Configuration Management (CM) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
- Working knowledge of 508 compliance and accessibility testing standards
