Swickard Auto Group, a leading automotive organization across the West Coast and Pacific Northwest, is seeking an experienced General Sales Manager (GSM) for one of our high-volume dealerships in the Portland metro area.
This is a confidential opportunity for a steady, disciplined leader who knows how to drive volume, develop managers, and deliver a consistent, guest-first sales experience rooted in integrity—not pressure.
Responsibilities:
- End-to-end variable operations leadership across new, pre-owned, digital retail, internet/BDC, and F&I collaboration.
- Daily sales execution built on preparation, structured appointments, and clear follow-through.
- Sales management coaching and development, ensuring desk managers and sales leaders operate with consistency and accountability.
- Strong partnership with fixed operations to ensure clean hand-offs, accurate timelines, and a seamless guest journey.
- Inventory strategy & execution: trade appraisals, aging control, pricing discipline, and market-based decision-making.
- Performance ownership across volume, front/back gross, lead response times, closing ratios, F&I referrals, and CSI/NPS.
- Reputation stewardship in the local market, aligned with Swickard’s long-term commitment to community and guest trust.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates a high “HQ” (Hospitality Quotient) consisting of kindness & optimism, intellectual curiosity, work ethic, empathy, self-awareness, and integrity.
- Proven success as a General Sales Manager or senior sales leader in a high-volume import environment.
- A leadership style grounded in clarity, consistency, and calm accountability.
- Strong ability to coach managers—not just desk deals—toward predictable performance.
- Deep understanding of modern retailing: digital leads, CRM discipline, appointment-based selling, and follow-up systems.
- Solid operational instincts around inventory mix, pricing strategy, and market dynamics.
- A hospitality-first mindset aligned with Swickard’s values and long-term view of leadership.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting: The majority of the workday is spent sitting at a desk, using a computer and phone.
- Standing and Walking: There may be times when the general sales manager needs to stand, walk around the dealership, or attend meetings.
- Reaching and Bending: The manager may need to reach for files, supplies, or equipment.
- Lifting: Occasionally, there might be a need to lift or move documents, supplies, or equipment.
