Job Summary:
The school bus driver operates school buses and other district vehicles in transporting students, teachers and coaches to and from school, athletic or special events and other school-related activities. This role is centered on providing reliable, attentive, and student-focused transportation services while strictly adhering to all traffic regulations, safety protocols, and district policies.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of all passengers during boarding, transit, and exiting.
- Obey all traffic laws and observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Perform daily pre-trip safety inspections prior to trip departure.
- Maintain order and use appropriate student management skills and procedures for oversight of students riding the school bus.
- Report all student incidents and accidents to Transportation Coordinator or assigned designee.
- Clean and maintain the assigned bus after use to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
- Arrive on time for all scheduled trips, including student pick-up and drop-off, ensuring reliability and consistency in transportation services.
- Transport only authorized students, following assigned routes and making stops only at designated locations unless otherwise directed by authorized personnel.
- Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical/vehicle issues or inability to meet assigned schedule.
- Maintain awareness of established bus evacuation procedures and ensures the safe, timely, and orderly evacuation of students in the event of an emergency.
- Accurately completes and submits all required forms, logs, and reports in a timely manner in accordance with school and transportation department procedures.
- Communicate with kindness, patience, and professionalism, reflecting the mission and values of Northwest Christian Schools.
- Maintain a professional image, appearance and demeanor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Benefits and Work Schedule:
- Schedule: Will follow athletics season, typically 3-4 days a week.

Minimum Qualifications:
General
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with School Bus and Passenger endorsements.
- Satisfactory driving record and ability to pass a National and Washington State Patrol background check.
- Must successfully pass required DOT physical.
- Possess First Aid/CPR certification or willing to obtain.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact courteously and effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Demonstrates a Christ-like attitude and commitment to the mission and values of Northwest Christian Schools.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment in emergency or stressful situations.
Physical
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating a school bus.
- Requires sufficient mobility and dexterity to safely operate vehicle and controls.
- Must be able to assist students in boarding, seating, and emergency evacuation situations as needed.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires visual acuity and hearing sufficient to monitor traffic, road conditions, and student activity.
