POSITION TITLE: Pool Instructor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt | Part-Time or Full-Time
POSITION SCOPE:
The Pool Instructor teaches assigned classes within standards set by certifying entities and within policies and procedures established by the organization. They may assist the Aquatics Director to design and implement new programs or classes and to evaluate current programs and classes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- May be in the water for 30 minutes or more depending on schedule.
- Ability to support child or adult body weight in the water.
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, and reaching.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Prior instructional experience is preferred. Appropriate and current certification is required.
ABILITY TO:
- Instruct group or private swim lessons with the knowledge and ability to demonstrate any swimming skills.
- Prepare lesson plans for self or substitute instructor. Will attempt to find substitute instructor coverage if needed.
- Provide a welcoming environment for all patrons.
- Arrives prepared, enthusiastic and on time for work.
- Have all equipment needed ready before class starts. Put away equipment when done teaching.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of participants and communicate with participants or parents about that progress.
- Complete all paperwork required.
- Promotes water safety and awareness. Follows pool rules and instructs participants to do so also.
- Confirm that participants exit safely and promptly when class is over, or if pool is being closed.
- Interacts with participants and colleagues to promote a positive and consumerorientated manner.
- Maintain communication and ability to work as a team with other Aquatic Team members and your supervisors.
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by alerting the lifeguard and/or activating the Emergency Activation Plan (EAP). If the Pool Instructor is not part of the First Aid Team, they will assist with other duties i.e. clearing the pool, getting the first aid kit, etc.
- Completes an incident report for any problematic events or injuries and promptly informs their supervisor about the event or injury.
- Communicate clear and concise information as needed to patrons, emergency medical service personnel and police services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
