Job Summary:
The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of their athletic program. This role is essential in cultivating a positive and unified team culture among players, parents, and assistant coaches. The Head Coach ensures a successful and meaningful season through a strong commitment to professional conduct, coaching excellence, and program leadership.
Job Responsibilities:
Coaching Expertise
- Develops a firm foundation for all aspects of the program through the implementation of Biblically based Enduring Understandings and Essential Questions intentionally communicated in regular devotions and affirmed in teachable moments.
- Develop unity of purpose between all program coaches.
- Provides high-quality coaching instruction by creating a written seasonal scope and sequence, preparing practice plans aligned to that framework, and implementing competition plans with post-competition analysis.
- Develops a positive mentoring relationship with players.
- Maintains a positive relationship with parents.
- Disciplines players appropriately.
- Develops appropriate summer and off-season activities that fit within the overall goals of the program.
- Provides locker room and bus supervision for their athletes.
- Ensures the safety of the athletes during practices and games.
- Handles injury situations in an appropriate manner.
Program Leadership
- Work with the Athletic Director to develop financial, spiritual, athletic, and academic goals for your program.
- Attends required preseason and postseason meetings with the Athletic Director to review program goals, logistics, evaluations, and future needs.
- Maintains consistent weekly communication with the Athletic Director regarding program logistics, team progress, and any player or parent concerns.
- Participates in mandatory all-coaches meetings and meets with the Athletic Director on an ad hoc basis as needed.
- Order, disperse, maintain, inventory, and store all program equipment and uniforms.
- Turns in all rosters, worksheets, and inventories into the Athletic Office in a timely manner.
- Follow NWCS procedures regarding budgetary purchasing and ordering.
- Plan and facilitates the preseason parent meeting.
- Understand and enforce policies and procedures regarding athlete eligibility.
Professional Conduct
- Displays appropriate conduct during games and practices.
- Displays appropriate behavior towards officials, opposing coaches and players.
- Displays positive appearance, manners, behavior, and language.
- Maintains a private life consistent with NWC values.
- Arrives on time for all practices and games.
- Maintains professional certification with WIAA including continuing education clock hours and CPR/1st Aid.
- Follows school, league, and WIAA policies and rules.
Compensation: $1,250 stipend
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience (Preferred).
- Demonstrated personal relationship with Jesus Christ, exemplifying a lifestyle that honors God, actively participating in an evangelical Bible-believing church, and approaching this role with a servant’s heart that reflects its importance as a ministry of NWCS.
- Proven interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
- Ability to supervise assistant coaches.
- Proven ability to teach and motivate athletes.
- Coaching expertise/knowledge of sport, motivation, strategies, and tactics
- Organized and the ability to multi-task.
- Maintain a First Aid/CPR certification.
