Description
The Instructional Designer is a full-time position responsible for developing, implementing, and refining instructional design specifications for educational content serving students in grades PK–12. This position focuses on the tactical execution of design strategies across digital, print, and blended learning environments. The role ensures that all learning products reflect the organization’s philosophy of learning and adhere to its Standards of Excellence for Instructional Design.
Design and Development:
- Collaborate in the development of digital, print, and blended learning products.
- Define and document clear, measurable learning objectives for all content.
- Design and produce engaging instructional materials, including courses, curricula, student guides, and training manuals.
- Apply evidence-based instructional design theories, practices, and methodologies.
- Create effective assessment instruments aligned to learning objectives and grade-level rigor.
- Develop multimedia elements (visual, audio, interactive) to enhance learning and engagement.
- Manage projects efficiently using digital tools.
- Ensure all deliverables align with company philosophy, brand standards, and strategic goals.
Research and Innovation:
- Conduct market and pedagogical research to inform design decisions.
- Integrate emerging technologies and AI-powered tools to enhance instructional quality and efficiency.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, templates, and quality standards.
Collaboration & Consultation
- Partner with internal and external teams to design instructional solutions that promote active, collaborative, and technology-enhanced learning.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders across departments.
- Provide consultation on instructional structure, learning design, and learner engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and authors to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
Professional Growth & Mentorship
- Engage in at least three professional development activities annually (e.g., LinkedIn Learning courses, webinars, independent research).
- Stay current with trends in instructional design, PK–12 education, and educational technology.
- Mentor team members or contribute to cross-functional training as assigned.
- Create and deliver professional development sessions on company content, tools, and products as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: 1–2 years of instructional design and/or educational publishing experience.
- Experience in applying learning theories to practice within digital, blended, and/or print educational products.
- Experience designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising educational materials.
- Experience in project management (e.g. time management, establishing priorities, and meeting milestones and deliverables).
- Experience using learning management systems and/or platforms (e.g. Canvas, Moodle, Buzz, etc.).
- Experience with accessibility requirements.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design and development tools (preferred).
- Experience and/or knowledge of the homeschool market (preferred).
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to simplify complex information and manage multiple priorities effectively.
