Description

Shift:


Job Summary: Responsible for daily charge-entry production for hospital Observation Unit, Emergency Department, Outpatient Injections/Infusions and ambulatory care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Generates list of daily patients to identify observation, outpatient and emergency room accounts to assign charges.


Reviews each record to appropriately apply CPT and NCCI guidelines when adding charges to accounts.


Educates departments on documentation requirements to improve charging accuracy.


Reviews records and posts charges in a timely basis.


Understands medical record documentation including IV infusions, pushes, and injections.


Assists the Business Office in identifying and resolving missing charges on observation, outpatient and emergency room accounts.


Records Observation and ambulatory post surgical times to log for Finance for Cost reporting purposes.


Maintains confidentiality and security of patient information...


Maintains a good working relationship within the Department and other departments.


Willing to accept additional assignments.


Demonstrates knowledge of computer system.


Requirements

Professional Requirements:


Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.


Completes annual educational requirements, i.e., mandatory annual online testing

Maintains regulatory requirements including all state, federal and CMS regulations.


Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time; minimal absenteeism (no more than 5 occurrence within a review year)


Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties.


Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized time system correctly.


Attends Hospital and Department in services as scheduled.


Attends staff meetings; reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.


Maintains Hospital requirements, policies and standards on patient confidentiality at all times.


Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.


Communicates the mission, vision, core values, ethics and goals of the Hospital, as well as the mission statement of the Department.


Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.


Actively participates in the departments CQI activities.


Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.


Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.


Answers telephone in a polite manner by the second ring.


Regulatory Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • Valid LPN, CNA, MA or Coder is preferred.


Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Additional languages preferred.


Skills:

  • Good computer skills
  • Knowledge of clinical operations and medical terminology
