Overtown Youth Center is seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead College and Career Coordinator to join our team. This pivotal role will provide leadership and support for the high school program team while delivering comprehensive college and career readiness services to students. The Lead College and Career Coordinator will oversee program implementation, ensure compliance with organizational and school standards, collaborate closely with school partners, and provide individualized post-secondary advising. This position is ideal for someone committed to empowering youth to achieve their academic and career goals, while also fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment that promotes student success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred) with 2–3 years of college/career counseling or related experience.
- Familiarity with college admissions, financial aid, standardized testing, and student information systems.
- Ability to empower, develop, manage, and hold staff accountable, with strong leadership and motivational skills.
- Skilled in assessment, intervention, and advocacy to support students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately, observe/report accurately, and act decisively to protect students.
- Awareness of community resources to support student and family needs.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, ability to pass background checks and drug screening, and flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.
What you would do:
- Lead and support staff through supervision, coaching, training, and guidance to ensure program fidelity and effective student support.
- Provide individualized college and career counseling to students in grades 11–12, guiding post-secondary planning and goal setting.
- Develop and maintain a safe, engaging learning environment while tracking student progress toward college, vocational, and career pathways.
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops, events, and activities including college applications, financial aid, standardized test prep, college visits, and career fairs.
- Build and maintain partnerships with schools, colleges, employers, community organizations, and volunteers to expand student opportunities.
- Advocate for students’ needs and provide staff support for problem-solving, crisis intervention, and access to necessary resources.
