Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under the direction of the Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, and in collaboration with the Pastor, this position develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive parish-wide ministry for marriage preparation, marriage enrichment, and annulment support. The Coordinator recruits, trains, and supports a team of volunteer ministers to serve in these areas and ensures that all related programs reflect the mission and values of the parish community. Additional duties may be assigned by the Pastor or Director as needed.
DUTIES OF THE JOB:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all engaged couples entering the marriage preparation process, offering a welcoming and supportive presence that connects them to parish life.
- Meet with engaged couples to initiate marriage files, manage intake procedures, and maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Coordinate and facilitate the FOCCUS assessment, ensuring that required seminars and sessions are scheduled and completed.
- Follow up with couples to confirm timely completion of all paperwork, meetings, and formation requirements.
- Oversee the scheduling of weddings and rehearsals in collaboration with Wedding Coordinators and the Coordinator of Scheduling.
- Prepare and send necessary documentation to civil authorities and churches of record, ensuring all sacramental and civil requirements are fulfilled.
- Work with the Database Assistant to record marriages accurately in the church management system and sacramental registers.
- Recruit, train, and support Mentor Couples, Wedding Coordinators, and Wedding Hospitality Ministers.
- Establish and lead a Marriage Advisory Board to provide input and guidance for marriage-related programs.
- Plan, promote, and facilitate events, workshops, and retreats to strengthen and enrich marriages within the parish community.
- In collaboration with the Formation department, reach out to the Young Family ministry
- Collaborate with parish communication channels to ensure effective outreach and participation.
- Oversee the annulment process, ensuring that parishioners receive compassionate guidance and clear communication.
- Train and support annulment ministers and publicize opportunities for those seeking healing after divorce.
- Serve as the staff liaison for Divorced and Separated Ministry and Retrouvaille Ministry, offering pastoral care and coordination.
- Continually assess and evaluate marriage preparation, enrichment, and annulment programs to meet the evolving needs of the parish.
- Collaborate with the Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization and the Pastor to ensure alignment with parish vision and goals.
- Participate actively in parish staff meetings, prayer, and formation opportunities.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Pastor or Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; certification or licensure in a related field from an accredited institution preferred.
- Equivalent experience may be substituted — a minimum of three (3) years in marriage ministry, parish ministry, or pastoral care is strongly desired.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of and commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church on marriage and family life.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Drive, etc.) and comfortable using virtual training and meeting platforms.
- Able to collaborate effectively within a team environment and build positive working relationships with staff, volunteer ministers, and parishioners.
- Completion and maintenance of Diocesan Safe Environment Training as required.
- Certified or eligible to serve as a Safe Environment Trainer.
- Knowledge of diocesan guidelines, policies, and procedures related to marriage preparation and ministry.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of parish events and programs.
- Possession of a valid Arizona Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation.
- Must adhere to all Diocesan and parish personnel policies applicable to staff members.
