Summary
In alignment with Star Valley Health’s mission, vision, and values, the Director of Health Information
Management (HIM) provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for the organization’s health information governance, clinical documentation integrity, and coding operations. This role is accountable for developing and executing a long-term strategy to ensure that health information systems and processes support clinical excellence, operational efficiency, financial integrity, and regulatory compliance.
The Director partners with executive leadership, clinical and operational leaders, and information technology to drive innovation in electronic health records (EHR), data integrity, and privacy practices. This position ensures Star Valley Health remains a leader in secure, high-quality, and compliant health information management across the continuum of care. This is an at-will position.
Job Duties
- Provide leadership and development for the HIM team, fostering professional growth, engagement, and high performance.
- Oversee HIM operations to ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, CAH regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HIM policies, procedures, and quality metrics.
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, IT, and clinical departments to optimize HIM workflows and ensure seamless EHR system integration.
- Lead system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements, including EPIC modules, ensuring testing, training, and workflow integration.
- Monitor and report on HIM productivity, quality indicators, and regulatory compliance metrics to executive leadership.
- Oversee responses to legal, audit, and data requests, ensuring timeliness and compliance.
Identify opportunities for process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and technology utilization to enhance HIM operations. Comply with HIPPA and other federal, state, and local regulations as well as maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in client and staff matters.
Abilities & Skills:
- Data Governance: Knowledge of data integrity, health information analytics, and reporting best practices.

- Comprehensive knowledge of HIM operations, medical record documentation standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to analyze complex workflows and develop effective solutions.
- Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, including Revenue Cycle, Quality, and IT.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer applications for data analysis and reporting.

Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, or a related field required; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in HIM, preferably in a hospital or health system environment.
- Strong experience with EPIC or other EHR systems, including system upgrades and workflow optimization.
- Proven track record of compliance oversight, policy development, and process improvement initiatives.
