Job purpose
At Shredfast Inc., an Electrical Technician – Tier 2 reports to the Electrical Department Lead and operates as a senior production employee within the Electrical Department, both carrying out advanced electrical system installation functions and providing guidance and support for the department in the absence of the Electrical Lead.
An employee in this position should have adequate knowledge of 12V electrical systems to answer intra-department junior staff questions and coordinate effectively with other departments. This includes knowledge of installation, wiring harness construction, programming, and control panel construction.
A Tier 2 Electrical Technician is also expected to demonstrate leadership qualities, initiative, and a team-oriented mindset, assisting with mentoring junior technicians and helping maintain workflow standards that support the long-term success of the Electrical Department. This role serves as a development step toward future leadership opportunities such as Electrical Lead (Tier 3).
Duties and responsibilities
- All duties of a Tier 1 Electrical Technician including:
- Assemble, install, and test electrical components.
- Follow service guides, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
- Repair or replace defective components.
- Perform basic electrical parts preparation work.
- Reassemble and test equipment after equipment repairs are completed.
- Perform basic electrical truck chassis preparation.
- Clean work area
- Learn the electrical preparation and installation processes for multiple builds.
- Assemble and repair wiring harnesses.
- Build and install electrical control panels.
- Install and adjust control programming.
- Bill of materials picking preparation
- Prepare electrical parts and process builds from schematics.
- Assist with electrical customer service workload.
- Assist in training new hires.
- General electrical troubleshooting
- General metal fabrication work including cutting, grinding, and shaping metal.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A strong understanding of mobile DC electronics is required.
- 2 years of experience working with 12V electrical systems is preferred.
- Must be able to correctly identify color-coded components.
- Have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge preferred.
- Read a tape measure.
- Ability to use basic hand tools, drills & air tools.
- Must be self-motivated and able to stay on task with good attention to detail.
- Must maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when moving heavy items such as large spools of electrical wire and boxes of components, and be able to sit, stand, crouch and kneel.
- Must have reliable transportation for work commute.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Tools are provided.
