The Quality Assurance Lead is an experienced, reliable, and results-oriented leader who thrives in a growing, multi-country organization. This role oversees a distributed QA team with direct and dotted line reporting relationships, responsible for validating both hardware and software features across M2M’s product ecosystem. The primary focus is to ensure high-quality, on-time releases by establishing test strategies, driving QA automation, building scalable QA resources, and maintaining clear communication with Engineering, Product Management, and Operations. This position requires strong leadership, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive information with complete confidentiality under the direction of the VP of Engineering.
Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed QA team supporting both hardware and software product lines.
- Build and maintain a well-structured QA organization capable of supporting Engineering sprint planning, backlog grooming, and early requirement review.
- Coordinate workload, assign test responsibilities, and ensure consistent execution of test plans across multiple concurrent releases.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and proactive quality ownership.
- Expand the definition of quality to include creating products that are intuitive to use.
Quality Assurance, Testing & Automation
- Oversee end-to-end test strategy, including manual and automated testing of features, firmware, and hardware components.
- Develop and expand QA automation frameworks for both hardware and software releases to improve test coverage, speed, and repeatability.
- Identify opportunities to automate regression suites, device functional tests, and integration scenarios across the product line.
- Review and guide test execution for new features, firmware updates, and hardware builds based on project requirements.
- Ensure defect validation and closure by retesting fixes and maintaining accurate defect tracking.
Communication & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide clear, timely, and actionable communication of test results, risks, and release impacts to Engineering, Product Management, and Operations.
- Oversee release cycles for the engineering team, ensuring quality checks have been met and the work is ready for release.
- Translate complex technical findings into terms appropriate for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Actively participate in sprint ceremonies, release planning, and product readiness reviews to ensure QA is engaged early in the development cycle.
Process Improvement, Tools & Resource Development
- Drive the evaluation, adoption, and implementation of tools, techniques, and processes that improve overall product quality and team efficiency especially using tools such as AI and automation.
- Lead the design and integration of automated testing solutions for both hardware and software environments.
- Develop QA documentation, test templates, capacity plans, and repeatable processes that support consistent engineering workflows.
- Track test progress, defects, and release metrics within Jira and other internal systems.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain documentation, test notes, and QA artifacts across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Protect the organization’s value by maintaining confidentiality.
- Execute special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education, Work Experience and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in the residential alarm industry or a closely related hardware/software industry. Knowledge of control panels (DSC, Honeywell, Vista, etc.) is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a QA or technical team environment, ideally with distributed or remote teams.
- Proven experience building or working with QA automation frameworks for both hardware and software products.
- Ability to bridge communication gaps—capable of discussing complex technical issues with engineers while also presenting clear, simplified explanations to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong skills in prioritization, organization, and time management; proven ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and comfort learning additional software and platforms.
- High degree of integrity with the ability to manage sensitive information.
- Flexibility in adapting to shifting priorities and business needs.
- Proven experience with general business office procedures.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
