Background:
OKBEI currently partners with non-profit agencies, hospitals, and community organizations that are delivering health and education services to expectant families in Tulsa. Oklahoma Birth Equity Initiative (OKBEI), a fiscally sponsored organization at the Tulsa Community Foundation (TCF) that works to equip families to have healthy births with dignity and reduce maternal health disparities. We envision a community in which all people are centered and respected before, during, and after pregnancy.
Role Overview:
The Program Specialist position will support Oklahoma Birth Equity Initiative community engagement programming and serving as an active ambassador for OKBEI’s mission and vision. This role is an integral member of the organization, who develops and organizes strategies to work collectively to reach the goals of OKBEI and community partners.
Essential Duties
- Increase community engagement through outreach
- Meet with community members, deliver presentations, represent OKBEI at local meetings, and help create tools, fact sheets, presentations, and templates
- Attend and assist with local outreach events
- Build and maintain relationships with local organization and community members
- Support the facilitation of meetings, events, and outreach programs to raise awareness
- Assist Creative Marketing Coordinator as needed to create awareness and engagement
- Track community outreach materials and coordinate with team member on reorders
- Maintain contact with business and community leaders to support coordination of special events and programs (i.e. business district banners, parades, etc.)
- Represent OKBEI professionally in the community in a front manner according to the OKBEI Code of Conduct
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- (a) Graduation from high school or procession of a General Education Development Certificate (GED), OR
- (a) Completion of tenth (10th) grade; and (b) Three (3) years’ experience relevant to the essential tasks listed in this job description
Requirements:
- Possession of valid Oklahoma Class “D” Driver's License
- Valid car insurance
- Subject to background check every 3 years
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Position continually requires the ability to talk and hear both in person and over the phone, visual acuity; ability to operate equipment, read, and use a keyboard
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Hours and Location
- Work primarily at the OKBEI office in Tulsa; most hours set between 8:00am-5:00pm, not to exceed 20-30 hours/week. There will be some off-site meetings/events. Some days will require flexible hours, with either an early start or a late finish.
- This position will require evening and/or weekend hours to attend community events on a weekly basis
