Role Overview

This role is built for an experienced generator technician who wants steady local field work, real autonomy, and modern power generation equipment, without being tied to a shop or vehicle maintenance work.

As a Field Service Technician, Power Generation, you will handle diagnostics, repairs, and performance testing on diesel and gaseous generator systems across local customer sites. You will operate independently in the field, act as a technical resource for less experienced technicians when needed, and focus on doing the job right with strong operational and leadership support behind you.

There are no direct reports, no sales pressure, and no automotive wrenching. This is a true power generation field role.

You will be home nightly, with overtime available based on customer needs and emergency response schedules.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel and gaseous generator systems
  • Troubleshoot AC and DC electrical systems from 110V to 600V, including transfer switches and switchgear
  • Identify electrical and mechanical faults using meters, test equipment, and OEM diagnostic tools
  • Perform load bank testing and generator performance verification
  • Complete accurate service documentation, parts usage, and repair recommendations
  • Travel locally to customer sites using a company-provided service truck
  • Support emergency service calls as needed
  • Follow all MSHS PPG safety, environmental, and operational standards

Who This Role Is a Great Fit For

  • Generator technicians currently working on standby or emergency power systems
  • Diesel technicians or mechanics looking to specialize in power generation
  • Industrial or field electricians with generator troubleshooting experience
  • Military veterans with power systems, generator, or critical infrastructure backgrounds
  • Technicians who want technical leadership without people management

Required Qualifications

  • Typically 3 or more years of experience in power generation, diesel engines, industrial electrical systems, or related field service work
  • Strong working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and generator diagnostics
  • Ability to work independently in a field environment with minimal supervision
  • Solid troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under company policy
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work indoors or outdoors in varying conditions
  • Willingness to work overtime, evenings, or weekends as business needs require

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Certificate or degree in Diesel Technology, Power Generation, or Electrical Systems, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Experience with multiple makes of standby or emergency generators and control systems
  • EGSA, ASE, NCCER, or similar industry certifications
  • Background in critical power, marine, industrial, or military environments
