General Description:


The Medical Assistant is a vital member of the healthcare team. This role supports patient care, clinical tasks, and administrative duties in the clinic and mobile medical unit.


Duties and Responsibilities:


• Greet and register patients and collect patient information.

• Prepare patients for exams, treatments, and procedures.

• Assist providers with exams and procedures.

• Perform vital signs, medication administration, and patient education.

• Perform phlebotomy, capillary blood collection, and specimen preparation.

• Perform point of care testing including glucose, lipids, A1c, and rapid tests.

• Conduct spirometry and support pulmonary testing workflows.

• Support vaccine administration and cold chain documentation.

• Complete medication reconciliation and update charts.

• Assist with inhaler teaching and nebulizer treatments.

• Support asthma and COPD disease management visits.

• Support medication access programs and paperwork.

• Perform clerical duties including scheduling and records management.

• Maintain clean exam rooms and restock supplies.

• Assist with outreach screenings including BP, glucose, and pulse oximetry.

• Support tobacco and nicotine recovery education.

• Set up and break down mobile medical unit operations.

• Track mobile medical unit inventory and diagnostic supplies.

• Support data entry for clinical quality measures and grants.

• Maintain equipment logs, vaccine logs, and lab control logs.

• Support chart audits and quality improvement processes.

• Maintain CPR and clinical competencies.

• Participate in safety drills and emergency procedures.

• Support onboarding of new staff, students, and volunteers.

• Lift and move equipment up to 40 pounds for mobile events.

• Work in variable environments including clinics, MMU sites, and outreach events.

• Drive the mobile medical unit when needed.

Requirements

  

Qualifications:


• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of recognized medical assistant program.

• Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).

• Phlebotomy certification or competency, a plus

• Experience with spirometry or willingness to train.

• Experience in community health or mobile care preferred.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to multitask and work in fast paced settings.

• Basic computer and EHR skills.

• Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and travel.

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
