Description
Palm House is seeking an accomplished Director of Engineering to lead all engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations for our luxury hospitality property. This leadership role is essential to maintaining the beauty, safety, and functionality of Palm House while supporting an exceptional guest and employee experience.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise, a proactive mindset, and a passion for excellence in hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Engineering team, fostering accountability, professionalism, and teamwork
- Oversee all preventive and corrective maintenance programs across the property
- Ensure proper operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, pool, and life-safety systems
- Plan, manage, and execute capital improvement projects and renovations
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, warranties, and project timelines
- Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, safety standards, and life-safety requirements
- Develop, manage, and control the Engineering department budget
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high-quality standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, and work-order systems
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations and operational needs
Requirements
Job Requirements
- 5–7+ years of engineering leadership experience in hospitality, luxury residential, or a similar environment
- Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety
- Proven experience managing preventive maintenance programs, budgets, and capital projects
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate engineering teams
- Solid understanding of OSHA standards, safety regulations, and local building codes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Strong vendor management, negotiation, and project management skills
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with maintenance management and work-order systems
- Ability to respond to emergencies and be available outside of normal business hours when required
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the role, including lifting up to 50 pounds
- Hotel or luxury hospitality experience preferred
- Relevant certifications or trade licenses (HVAC, CPO, electrical, or similar) are a plus
