Sets up and operates CNC machining centers or lathes to produce metallic and non-metallic parts.
· Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to evaluate dimensions and tolerances of finished part, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements.
· Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on materials or part as guide for subsequent machining.
· Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
· Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant, flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to create or edit computerized program instructions.
· Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or computerized program as required.
· Sets up and operates machine on initial run to verify accuracy of settings or program, may produce production parts as well.
· Verifies conformance of finished part to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
· Fits and assembles parts into assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.
· Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using precision measuring instruments.
· Inspects and measures parts to maintain quality records.
· Maintains accurate counts of parts; attaches labels or tags to finished part containers identifying customer, part number, quantity and shop order information.
· Utilizes data collection system to accurately record production activities including time spent, quantity produced and any rejected parts.
· Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate job activities.
· Follows all safety procedures and wears safety equipment or apparel as required.
· Performs all job functions to meet acceptable quality and performance standards.
· Ensures on a daily basis that the work area is clean and orderly including machine, tooling and workstation.
· (May) Write CNC programs using machine control or computer system.
May be required to follow other job-related instructions and duties as requested, subject to applicable state and federal laws.
Required Qualifications:
· Minimum of 4 years of CNC machining work experience required
· Ability to read blueprints, micrometer and caliper
· Good knowledge of shop mathematics
· Good mechanical aptitude
Preferred Qualifications:
· Ability to create CNC programs using MasterCam or similar CAM software
· Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical Requirements:
· Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 pounds of force frequently
· Frequently required to stand, walk, bend and reach with hands and arms
· Ability to communicate with others and accommodation as required to listen to machine sounds
· Accommodation as required for reading documents, prints, calipers and computer screens
Working Conditions:
Typical metal manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coat paint facility. Active work that primarily involves walking, standing, bending and lifting.
