JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Statutory Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely statutory financial reporting and regulatory compliance within the property and casualty insurance sector. This role is pivotal in maintaining financial integrity and transparency in accordance with NAIC guidelines, state insurance department regulations, and applicable accounting standards (SAP, GAAP, IFRS).
The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including finance, actuarial, investments, and compliance to deliver high-quality financial statements, insightful analysis, and support for audits and examinations. The Senior Statutory Accountant also monitors regulatory changes and contributes to process improvements that enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and review quarterly and annual statutory financial statements in accordance with NAIC guidelines and state regulatory requirements.
• Lead components of the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Analyze financial results and provide clear, actionable insights to internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal departments to gather data and ensure completeness and accuracy in reporting.
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and other compliance reviews by preparing schedules and documentation.
• Monitor and interpret changes in statutory accounting principles and regulatory requirements to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Respond to ad-hoc requests for financial and operational analysis from management and regulators.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3–5 years of accounting or audit experience, preferably within insurance or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles; property and casualty insurance experience preferred.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience with NetSuite or similar general ledger systems is a plus.
Certifications
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or AIAF (Associate in Insurance Accounting and Finance) designation preferred.
• Candidates actively pursuing CPA or AIAF certification will also be considered.

This is a position based in a professional office environment or remote/hybrid setting, depending on company policy and needs.
Standard business hours apply, with occasional extended hours required to meet project deadlines or attend leadership meetings.
Frequent use of a computer, phone system, and claims management software.
Must be comfortable navigating multiple systems and screens simultaneously.
Requires clear, professional verbal communication and active listening skills.
Fast-paced environment with performance metrics.
Must be able to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
Frequent collaboration with cross-functional teams across time zones requiring flexibility in scheduling.
May require occasional travel.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8 hours per day) while working on a desk computer.
Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
Ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and video conferencing tools.
Must be able to read and interpret documents, emails, and computer screens.
Extended screen time is required.
Must be able to hear and speak clearly on the phone for extended periods.
Use of a headset is common and may be required.
Minimal physical movement required; occasional walking or standing may be needed.
