ROLE SUMMARY:
The Bilingual Graphic Designer (consultant) will work remotely to support Health Care Without Harm’s US and global communications, campaigns, and program teams by creating high-quality visual content in both English and Spanish. This full-time, 1-year fixed-term role (with potential for extension or transition to a permanent position) reports to the Director of External Affairs. The designer will produce social media graphics, reports, infographics, presentations, logos, branding systems, and campaign materials, ensuring all outputs align with HCWH’s brand and mission. The role requires collaboration across teams, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a strong eye for detail and creative storytelling to make complex health and climate content accessible and engaging.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
The primary objective of the Graphic Designer is to create high-quality visual content that effectively communicates Health Care Without Harm’s mission and initiatives, both in English and Spanish. This includes designing materials for digital and print platforms such as social media graphics, reports, infographics, presentations, logos, branding systems, and campaign collateral. The designer will ensure all outputs are visually compelling, accessible, and aligned with the organization’s brand guidelines, while collaborating closely with communications, program, and regional teams to deliver timely, impactful designs that simplify complex health and climate content for diverse audiences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Design & Creative Production
- Develop high-quality visual content for social media, websites, newsletters, and digital campaigns in English and Spanish.
- Design reports, briefs, fact sheets, and other publications, ensuring brand consistency and strong visual storytelling.
- Create campaign collateral, including banners, posters, toolkits, infographics, animations, and advocacy materials.
- Produce and refine logos, sub-brand systems, and visual identities for programs, campaigns, and events.
- Support design needs for presentations, pitch decks, and high-level organizational materials.
Brand Stewardship
- Ensure all visual products align with HCWH’s brand guidelines, values, and mission.
- Maintain and evolve organizational templates, graphics libraries, and design assets.
- Collaborate with communications staff to strengthen HCWH’s visual identity across regions.
Collaboration & Workflow Management
- Work closely with communications, programs, and regional teams to understand design needs, plan work, and deliver timely, high-quality outputs.
- Manage multiple design requests simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Coordinate with external vendors (illustrators, printers, photographers) as needed.
- Participate in creative brainstorming, campaign planning, and cross-team collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required.
- 2+ years of professional experience in graphic design, ideally in nonprofits, advocacy, sustainability, or health-related fields.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and design tools such as Figma or Canva.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating social media content, publication layout, brand design, and creative visual storytelling.
- Ability to simplify complex information into engaging, accessible graphics.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams across regions and time zones.
- A demonstrable passion for climate action, environmental protection, public health, or social impact work.
