Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Programming Coordinator supervises Camp Specialists, plans special events and creates a safe environment for campers and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Train camp staff in planning and running activities.
- Work with Specialists to proactively create and implement lesson plans for their designated program each week. Provide additional support for Specialists running week-long programs.
- Review and approve specialist activities.
- Provide constructive feedback to staff on an ongoing basis.
- Plan J Camp special events under the discretion of the Camp Director.
- Work with Camp Care Coordinator and Camp Nurses to ensure appropriate accommodations are made as needed.
- Work with other members of the J Camp leadership team and Specialists to plan and run daily Boker Tov and weekly Shabbat programs.
- Oversee programming budget. Order supplies and track expenses.
- Work with year-round team to create daily schedule.
- Ensure camp goals and values, including indelible Judaism, are integrated in J Camp programs. Collaborate with Character Ambassador.
- Create alternative program plans and adapt when weather or other changes necessitate.
- Support Camp Office Administrator with monitoring phone and email.
- Ensure the safety, health and welfare of campers and staff by providing a safe camp environment and immediately and appropriately responding to any incidents, illnesses or situations that arise.
- Communicate regularly with the Camp Director and other members of the Camp Leadership Team; share recommendations with the Camp Director on an ongoing basis.
- Act as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside of the SJCC
- Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
- Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises Camp Specialists.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience: Experience and/or training working with children required. Camp or similar youth recreation experience required.
Other Skills: Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body. Openness to learning
