Description
SUMMARY
The School seeks an outstanding educator for Middle School English. Duties comprise teaching two grade levels of Middle School English (5th-8th), advising on a grade level team, and participation in Middle School and grade level activities and duties. Experience with grades 7 and 8 is preferred.
This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Reports to -- Head of Middle School
Start Date -- August 1, 2026
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities for the position include teaching four sections of Middle School English by:
- Establishing and enhancing literacy skills using a variety of culturally relevant texts;
- Fostering a love of reading both inside and outside the classroom;
- Creating an environment for students to discover and explore abstract concepts;
- Mentoring middle school writers though the writers’ workshop process and written and oral feedback;?
- Building foundational grammar and vocabulary skills;
- Adapting teaching practices to accommodate a diverse set of learners;
Requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Have 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with Middle School students;
- Have a rich background in the teaching of English or literacy in upper Middle School grades
- Be ready to collaborate with other members of the English department to design and implement curriculum;
- Have the ability to support students in their acquisition and development of reading and writing skills;
- Be enthusiastic about creating student-centered lessons that allow young learners to explore complex topics in a variety of ways;
- Be willing to continuously develop as a teacher through professional development opportunities both internal and external;
- Be motivated to find ways to contribute to the life of the School through coaching, clubs, etc.;
- Have the optimism, desire, and positive enthusiasm to work with Middle School students as teacher and as advisor on a grade level team.
