Mission of the Dental Assistant


The Dental Assistant reports to the Practice Administrator. The mission of the Dental Assistant is to support both patients and providers by facilitating patient and parent understanding of recommended treatments and assisting the doctor during chairside dental procedures.


The Dental Assistant is responsible for building strong relationships with patients and parents while supporting the doctor in increasing production and efficiency. This role requires a strong knowledge of dentistry and the ability to assist in a wide variety of dental procedures. Pediatric Dental Assistants must obtain credentialing at the hospital where the Pediatric Dentist provides care.

Key Responsibilities


- Seat patients and ensure comfort throughout the visit

- Update health histories and obtain vital signs

- Prepare treatment rooms and materials prior to the dentist’s arrival

- Assist the dentist chairside during a wide range of procedures

- Take dental radiographs (X-rays)

- Take impressions, pour models, and complete lab work

- Perform approved independent patient care within scope of practice (e.g., seating crowns, adjusting dentures, applying fluoride)

- Order, stock, and organize supplies and treatment rooms

- Educate patients on procedures and post-treatment care

- Clean and reset treatment rooms between patients

- Sterilize instruments and maintain infection control standards

- Perform equipment maintenance and upkeep

- Assist with hospital General Anesthesia cases and other duties as assigned

Salary Description
$19.20 - $24.00
