JOB SUMMARY: Metro Engineering Solutions, LLC (“MES”) is looking for a Field Utility Specialist to join our team! MES is a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Field Utility Specialist is responsible for conferring with office staff (utility planners, consultants and/or engineers to understand the scope and requirements for a project while physically inspecting gas, electric, and other data utility systems and associated materials and components.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Physical inspection of existing poles, lines, and right of ways to assess readiness for new attachments.
- Locate and document required information through IKE and Katapult fielding software.
- Application and analysis of standards and authorities, plans and specifications provided by designers and engineers. Responsible for knowing and complying with owner, MES, and MIOSHA site safety rules and regulations at all times.
- Conferring with utility planners, consultants and/or engineers, to gain an understanding of the scope and requirements of a project.
- Accurately measuring, documenting, recording, evaluating, and assessing existing utility structures.
- Other duties as assigned by Project Manager.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Primarily work outdoors, must be able to work in extreme heat and cold.
- Regularly required to walk for long distances.
- Frequently lifts or move objects up to 20 pounds.
- Access and inspect utility infrastructure and cables in standard outdoor work environments

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma and/or equivalent combination of education & experience.
- Minimum two (2) years applicable experience working with construction, engineering, or facilities maintenance.
- Required to have satisfactory results on a Motor Vehicle Record check and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- OSHA confined space training certification preferred.
- Ability to understand basic principles of public and private utilities.
- Ability to learn and understand civil, structural, electrical, and communication systems and structures.
- Compliance and knowledge of OSHA and site safety rules.
