Hoyle Tanner is seeking an Aviation Engineering Manager to lead and coach our Aviation engineers and project engineers. This position can be based out of either our Portsmouth, NH, Manchester, NH or Chelmsford, MA office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary coach for engineers specializing in airport civil engineering including airside, landside, and building/ terminal/ infrastructure projects
  • Foster a culture of learning and professional growth through structured mentorship, skills assessments, and individualized development plans
  • Assist in the acceleration and advancement of staff from early career to project engineer roles including guidance for those pursuing technical roles as well as leadership roles
  • Collaborate with department heads to align staff development with airport project needs and career advancement goals
  • Lead and promote internal knowledge-sharing and training programs under the Hoyle Tanner Training Development program
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of technical skills and tools serving as a resource and coach
  • Design and implement training programs focused on airport engineering technical skills such as 2D drafting and 3D modeling (AutoCAD Civil 3D) for airport site plans and grading plans, utility planning utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D for conflict identification and resolution
  • Project management and cost estimation (Microsoft Project) for airport projects
  • Hydraulics, hydrology, drainage, and transportation planning relevant to airside and landside infrastructure
  • Airfield lighting, navigational aid and marking design
  • Design and implement training programs focused on airport engineering soft skills including communications techniques for various settings (ex. client discussions, conflict resolution, discussions with regulators, discussions with funding agencies), planning and conducting a meeting, techniques to generate stakeholder by-in, LEAN Planning (project management and project scheduling), consistent technical quality across airport projects, and overseeing the onboarding of new engineers
  • Manage all civil engineering staff with 0-9 years of experience within the airport engineering group, focusing on mentorship, skill development, and career progression
  • Continue to support our young engineers by encouraging them to take the path of earning a professional license (EIT, PE)
  • Identify high-potential engineers and develop advancement pathways from staff to project engineer levels, partnering with HR as appropriate
  • Provide structured feedback, training plans, and coaching to foster accelerated growth for 0-9 year engineers
  • Collaborate with leadership to forecast staffing and training needs specific to airport civil engineering
  • Serve as an advocate for engineering excellence, professional development, and innovation in airport infrastructure
  • Promote and expand the internal training development programs ensuring the program reflects industry best practices for aviation civil engineering
  • Foster a positive team-centric culture and mindset amongst staff
  • Monitor, analyze, and manage resource planning for all engineering projects ensuring a reasonable allocation of resources to most efficiently meet all project schedules
  • Run and lead recurring project manager meetings
  • From time to time this position may serve as a supplement to technical staff in the form of project-specific project management or senior technical design. This would be for either large, complex projects, or in some cases for smaller and unique projects where the candidates expertise will be valuable


Requirements

Qualified Candidates will have:

  • BS in Civil Engineering (preferred), Electrical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience, with experience mentoring or coaching engineering staff and a track record of developing technical talent, strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Salary is contingent on experience

Salary Description
$80.00 - $95.00 per hour
