Seasonal Summer Camp Manager
Description

 Position Summary:

The Seasonal Summer Camp Manager provides direct oversight and supervision of all Summer Camp programs and staff during the entirety of the Summer Camp season. The position is responsible for the day-day operations of weekly Summer Camp sessions. This position also schedules, monitors, and supports all staff, with the support of the Counselor and Adventure Supervisor, Program Supervisor, Healthcare Supervisor, and Food Supervisor, and facilitates programs as needed. Due to close contact and overnight supervision of a Girl Scout youth population in this residential setting, the Summer Camp Manager must be female.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee camp staff, accommodations, meals, and ensure the overall wellbeing of campers. 
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff by always adhering to the GSUSA Safety Checkpoints. 
  • Supervise and support the Counselor and Adventure Supervisor, Summer Camp Program Supervisor, Healthcare Supervisor, and Food Supervisor.
  • Review and approve daily programs. 
  • Assist with delivery of pre-camp trainings. 
  • Plan and conduct weekly staff meetings to outline goals and expectations. Participate in Camp Administration meetings and provide leadership at meetings. Review evaluations with all staff under ACA guidelines in a timely manner. 
  • Develop routines, staff schedules, and procedures for camp operations. 
  • Maintain a visible presence on camp, ensuring the activity and unit staff are present at assigned locations and are on time for all events. 
  • Assist in the finalization of unit assignments and schedules and assigning staff and campers to units or groups. 
  • Maintain written records and make formal reports as required; ensure all documentation and reports are completed and submitted on time in accordance with established deadlines. 
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to developing good morale and well-being among the camp staff and campers. 
  • Enforce the Camper and Staff Behavior Agreement communicating with parents/guardians as necessary.  
  • Responsible for the execution of the GSHPA crisis management plan for emergencies that may occur during camp at any      time of day or night. 
  • Lead the check-in and check-out process. 
  • Assist in covering ratio in units and fill in as a counselor as necessary.  
  • Assist in filling in for all roles on camp as necessary.  
  • Abide by GSHPA code of conduct, rules, and expectations.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Requirements

 Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum 21 years of age, 25+ preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree (or in process of obtaining) in Camp Administration, Education, Outdoor Education or related degree, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a camp leadership setting required.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate girls to participate in activities and lead activities in a flexible, professional manner and in accordance with GSHPA strategies.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. 
  • Ability to develop and lead activities.
  • Attend and complete pre-camp trainings.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to live and work in the outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk a mile over uneven terrain.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
  • Ability to adapt well to changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a group setting.
  • Strong verbal communication, organizational, and public speaking skills.
  • Must be able to pass required background checks.
  • Must present a current form of ID affirming female gender at time of hire.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
