Description

 

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic 1:1 Early Childhood Assistant Teacher to support a child in our 3-year old classroom. As a 1:1 Assistant Teacher, you will work closely with the lead teacher and other specialists to appropriately engage the child in the classroom.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. 


Responsibilities include:

  • Implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities that support the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of the child.
  • Monitor child during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring child’s safety and well-being at all times. 
  • Provide one-on-one support and assistance to child as needed, including helping with activities, reinforcing positive behavior, and addressing individual learning needs.
  • Observe and document child's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones. Maintain accurate records and contribute to assessments and reports for parent communication and program evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other team members to plan and implement engaging and enriching learning experiences for child. 
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and other professional development
  • Assist with meal/snack times, toileting routines, and other daily care tasks as needed.
  • Support child in social emotional growth and development.

 


Requirements
  • Fluent Hebrew speaker
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare center, or similar setting (preferred).
  • Knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions from lead teachers and supervisors.

 

Salary range for this role is $30,000-$40,000, depending upon education and experience.
