Job Summary

The Senior Accountant role at Mazzetti offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a growing, mission-driven engineering firm while continuing to develop technically and professionally. This position plays a critical role in supporting the Controller and Finance team across month-end close, reconciliations, compliance activities, budgeting, and audits. The Senior Accountant will handle complex accounting responsibilities while also providing coverage and support across payroll and accounts payable functions to ensure continuity and cross-functional knowledge.

Your Tasks Will Involve

Core Accounting & Financial Close

  • Assist the Controller with multi-company month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries across multiple entities.
  • Perform and review balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.
  • Analyze expenses and account activity to identify coding errors, variances, and anomalies.
  • Support and improve month-end close documentation, controls, and timelines.

Compliance, Taxes & Regulatory Filings

  • Prepare or assist with property tax filings for all company locations.
  • Support state-specific tax filings and compliance requirements.
  • Manage workers’ compensation filings and support audit processes.
  • Assist with maintaining company good standing across jurisdictions.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Support annual budgeting processes, including:
    • Reviewing and analyzing large groups of general ledger accounts (100+).
    • Partnering with the Finance team to divide and manage budget components.
    • Identifying trends, risks, and assumptions for upcoming fiscal years.
  • Assist with tracking and reconciling budget-to-actual results.

Audits & Special Projects

  • Support ESOP and 401(k) audits, including documentation and auditor coordination.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed.
  • Participate in special accounting and finance projects, including process improvements.

Cross-Training & Backup Support

  • Crosstrain in payroll and accounts payable processing.
  • Serve as backup support for payroll and AP functions as needed.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.

Requirements

Expertise And Abilities You Will Contribute

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, with strong accounting knowledge.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior experience supporting month-end close and reconciliations.
  • Experience in an AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) environment strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with Deltek (Vision/Vantagepoint) required. 
  • Paylocity experience required
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage and analyze complex reconciliations and large data sets.
  • CPA license is beneficial but not required.

Compensation: The typical salary range for a Senior Accountant is $85,000 - $115,000. We are committed to equitable pay and will evaluate final compensation based on relevant experience and skills in alignment with internal equity and market data.
