Position Summary

The DQL Developer & Database Administrator is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Sound Income Group’s first in-house SQL database environment. This position is approximately 80% SQL development and data engineering and 20% database administration, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, well-governed data solutions from the ground up.


This role will partner closely with internal stakeholders across Technology, Operations, Finance, and Leadership to translate business requirements into reliable, high-performance database structures and workflows. The ideal candidate is methodical, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning database architecture, performance optimization, and data processes in a regulated, financial-services environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and data structures to support reporting, analytics, and business operations.
  • Lead the build-out of Sound Income Group’s internal SQL database server, including schema design, data modeling, and foundational processes.
  • Perform database administration functions (approximately 20%), including monitoring performance, managing access and permissions, ensuring data integrity, and supporting backups and recovery.
  • Develop and manage ETL processes and data integrations across multiple systems and platforms.
  • Analyze and tune database performance, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business goals and translate them into scalable, compliant technical solutions.
  • Plan, organize, and manage technical projects, including defining timelines, tracking progress, and ensuring successful delivery; exposure to Scrum or Scaled Agile methodologies is preferred.
  • Establish documentation, standards, and best practices for database development, version control, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensure database solutions align with internal security policies, data governance standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to financial services.
  • Serve as a technical leader and subject-matter expert for SQL and data-related initiatives, providing guidance and direction as the function matures.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities, technologies, and business needs while maintaining system reliability and accuracy.
Requirements

 

Must-Have Qualifications

Background and Education:

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Developer, Database Developer, or similar role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working in or supporting financial services or regulated environments preferred.

Technology Expertise:

  • Strong expertise in SQL database development, administration, and design.
  • Experience with MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server; exposure to Snowflake strongly preferred.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including query optimization, performance tuning, and complex data modeling.
  • Experience designing and supporting ETL workflows and data integration across heterogeneous systems.
  • Familiarity with Git and version-controlled development workflows.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods at a desk using a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds if/when necessary.
  • Routine use of telephone and email.
  • Office-based role with potential travel to conferences, events, and satellite offices as needed.

Salary Description
$90,000 - $120,000
