About the Role
As a member of our dynamic team, you will work collaboratively with team members, key stakeholders, and product teams to lead various aspects of information architecture for our client. This lead role will support the Department of Veterans Affairs in improving digital forms and tools that Veterans use to access benefits as well as content modernization and migration efforts.

- Remote with potential travel to Client site.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an IA Lead for a complex, multi-system program that includes IA and content disciplines.
- Provide IA expertise in efforts to modernize, simplify, and digitize benefit forms, improve online tools related to VA benefits, and migrate and modernize legacy sites.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and day-to-day management of the IA workflows/practices.
- Establish governance models, standards, and decision frameworks for content, taxonomy, metadata, and form architecture.
- Align content structures with policy, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
- Develop and enforce content mapping, tagging, and transformation standards to ensure accuracy and consistency during migration.
- Evaluate and improve site search, findability, and content discoverability.
- Propose IA solutions based on data and user insights, utilizing keyword research and a range of analytics tools to improve content, visibility and audience reach.
- Lead ongoing IA audits to ensure site quality, usability, accessibility, and inclusivity.
- Support research activities, such as cards sorts, tree tests, and usability tests.
- Produce content models, metadata, taxonomies, and sitemaps.
- Collaborate with product managers, UX researchers/designers, engineers, and content designers to ensure alignment and feasibility.
- Update navigation elements in Drupal CMS.
- Mentor junior and mid-level IA and content staff, providing technical guidance, feedback, and development support.
- Establish best practices, templates, and playbooks to scale IA and content maturity across the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Must be a US Citizen due to contract requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information/library science, human-computer interaction, experience design, communications, or related field; a degree with a digital focus is preferred or other combination of education, training, and certifications
- 5+ years of experience in information architecture or content strategy for large websites and digital products
- Experience working with content management systems and/or digital platforms, including creating and managing plans for migrating content from legacy to modernized content management solutions
- Strong understanding of human-centered design (HCD) strategies, methods, and approaches, and how content strategy fits in and elevates UX and product design deliverables and solutions
- A portfolio of work that demonstrates IA thinking, structure, and impact.
- Experience working with Agile development teams
- Management and/or mentoring experience
- Proven experience working in a complex program/ecosystem
- Demonstrated experience working within cross-functional digital teams for at least 4 years
- Strong consultation and collaboration skills; comfortable facilitating meetings and workshops with cross-functional project teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in writing, revising, sourcing, and aggregating content
- Experience using voice of the customer data and analytics to support decisions
- An understanding of plain language guidelines and accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG)
