Description

The Driver works as a valued member of the operations team. This position works under general supervision and is also responsible for safe operation of company owned and leased trucks for the delivery and pickup of food while following Arkansas Foodbank guidelines.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Driver will be comfortable learning new technology, as well as an eagerness to utilize Arkansas Foodbank software systems. They will possess strong interpersonal skills, a spirit of collaboration and teamwork, and a commitment to hunger relief. 

  1. Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision in accordance with Arkansas Foodbank values (Collaboration, Respect, Innovation & Creativity, Service, and Integrity)
  2. Operate vehicle in accordance with OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
  3. Ensure good customer relations by consistently picking up food and delivering orders on time and behaving with integrity and in a courteous and professional manner. 
  4. Make sound and immediate decisions at any given time based on traffic and road conditions.
  5. Operate material-handling equipment safely and efficiently. Assist in unloading food product off the Foodbank trucks.
  6. Transfer product to cooler, freezer, and warehouse from dock area.
  7. Inform management of identified or suspected mechanical problems and follow through with authorized repairs.
  8. Complete pre and post trip inspections during scheduled hours.
  9. Report all accidents to Transportation Manager or Chief Operating Officer in accordance with Arkansas Foodbank policy.
  10. Maintain all required certification required by DOT, OSHA, and Arkansas Foodbank’s safety program.
  11. Maintain respectful and professional attitude when dealing with donors and the community.
  12. Interact professionally with other employees and external customers.
  13. Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  14. Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with others.
  15. Maintain valid CDL License with current DOT physical card and maintain a safe driving record.
  16. Must possess knowledge of road use, laws, and regulations.
  17. Ability to safely operate and maintain Foodbank truck.
  18. Ability to communicate effectively, oral, and written format.
  19. Ability to work independently or with little supervision.
  20. Ability to work in severe weather conditions – both heat and cold
  21. Attend required staff meetings, training, and conferences.
  22. Complete and submit reports as required.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred for the candidate or employee; however, other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of management. 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One-year commercial driving experience.
  • Must be certified to operate power industrial equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc.) or be able to pass power industrial certification. The power industrial certification will be administered by the Arkansas Foodbank.
  • Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license, Class B required, Class A preferred.
  • Must have a clean driving record. 
  • Valid Arkansas driver’s license and proof of insurance required
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass a preemployment drug screening

Working Conditions

This job operates in the community and a professional office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot/cold and/or humid conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift/move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to operate vehicles.
