SUMMARY
The Vice President of Staff Training & Development provides executive leadership for all staff training, professional development, and learning initiatives across ADAPT Community Network. This role designs and leads a comprehensive, agency network-wide learning strategy that enhances workforce performance, supports retention and career growth, ensures regulatory compliance, and promotes a culture of continuous learning through innovative, scalable, and high-quality training experiences aligned with ADAPT’s mission and operational goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Vice President of Staff Training & Development include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Provides executive leadership for all staff training and development initiatives, aligning learning strategies with ADAPT’s mission, workforce priorities, and long-term organizational goals.
- Develops and executes a multi-year, agency network-wide learning and development strategy that supports employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and leadership development.
- Serves as a senior advisor to executive leadership on workforce capability, training effectiveness, and emerging trends in learning and development.
Training & Curriculum Oversight
- Assesses agency network-wide training needs and designs comprehensive training, professional education, and leadership development programs to meet regulatory, operational, and strategic needs.
- Oversees the development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of training curricula, instructional materials, and delivery methods to ensure alignment with best practices and evidence-based approaches.
- Ensures all curricula reflect current research, regulatory standards, and industry innovations.
- Champions new and creative training formats, including blended learning, virtual instruction, microlearning, and experiential learning models.
Systems, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Oversees and maintains an agency network-wide training database and Learning Management System (LMS) to track staff compliance, certifications, and professional development activities.
- Ensures timely development and distribution of a comprehensive, agency network-wide training calendar.
- Ensures compliance with OPWDD, NYS, and other regulatory training requirements, partnering with Program and Department Directors to drive attendance and accountability.
- Leads evaluation of training effectiveness using data, metrics, and outcomes to inform continuous improvement.
Team Leadership & Operations
- Leads, mentors, and develops a high-performing training and development team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Oversees the recruitment, supervision, and performance management of training staff, consultants, interns, and vendors.
- Develops, manages, and monitors departmental budgets; ensures responsible fiscal stewardship and maximize return on investment.
- Establishes and implements policies and procedures related to training, professional development, and learning systems.
Collaboration & External Partnerships
- Collaborates with LMS, Marketing, Communications, and external vendors to produce high-quality training materials, videos, and learning resources.
- Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with universities, professional organizations, and external training providers to expand learning opportunities.
- Leads the development, standardization, and governance of agency network-wide training curricula to be used across ADAPT Community Network and all affiliated organizations, ensuring consistency, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Represents ADAPT in external forums, committees, and professional networks related to workforce development and training innovation.
Organizational Impact
- Partners with senior leaders to support leadership development, succession planning, and workforce readiness initiatives.
- Promotes a culture of learning, inclusion, and continuous improvement that supports staff engagement and retention.
- Performs other related duties and special initiatives as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in staff training, learning and development, workforce development, or organizational effectiveness, preferably within a nonprofit, healthcare, human services, or disability services environment.
- At least 5 years of senior leadership experience, including managing managers and leading multi-disciplinary teams across complex organizations.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing enterprise-wide learning strategies, including compliance-driven training, leadership development, and career pathway programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with and engage diverse audiences.
- Ability to achieve goals and deliverables through coordination of many individuals and activities.
- Ability to accept and work within a wide variety of cultural, educational, and religious differences.
- Willingness and drive to grow and develop programs and opportunities.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Exhibits professional ethics, discretion, and courtesy when dealing with others.
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Demonstrates proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
- Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
- Establishes and maintains positive and supportive rapport with staff and people supported, aiding in retention and providing coaching as needed.
- Passion for ADAPT's mission and demonstrates a commitment to the non-profit disability sector.
COMPENSATION: $125,000-$140,000 Annually (commiserate on experience) + Industry-Leading Benefits!
