Director of Postpartum
Location: Austin, TX
Compensation: Up to $150,000 base salary + leadership incentive bonus
Relocation: Eligible, if needed

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Director of Postpartum to oversee postpartum and lactation services within a growing hospital environment. This leader is responsible for maintaining high-quality, patient-centered care, ensuring optimal staffing and resource allocation, and advancing clinical excellence across a large postpartum care division. The ideal candidate brings strong L&D or postpartum leadership experience and thrives in a high-growth, fast-paced setting.
Role Overview:
The Director of Postpartum provides strategic and operational leadership for postpartum and lactation services, ensuring consistent adherence to standards of care, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based clinical practices. This leader fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include clinical oversight, staff development, policy implementation, throughput management, and operational planning aligned with facility goals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Identify, implement, and sustain evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes across postpartum and lactation services
• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards and implement updates as necessary
• Manage variation in clinical practice and promote efficient, cost-effective care delivery
• Support a culture of accountability, transparency, and professional growth among clinical teams
• Forecast volume and coordinate patient throughput, flow, and discharge planning to optimize capacity and maintain high-quality care
• Develop and update departmental policies and procedures aligned with organizational objectives
• Stay current on external benchmarks, regulatory changes, and best practices to maintain and elevate departmental performance
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Experience in labor & delivery, postpartum, or mother-baby units required
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience at the Supervisor level or higher within L&D or postpartum settings
• Strong understanding of patient flow, staffing strategies, operational planning, and regulatory compliance within women’s services departments
