The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Community Compliance Officer I in our Planning and Development Department.
Responsibilities:
· Conducts field investigations and property maintenance inspections to identify violations related to nuisance conditions, zoning, junk and debris, abandoned or inoperative vehicles, housing, life safety, and other applicable codes.
· Maintains accurate case records, including photographs, notices, orders, and inspection notes; conducts follow up inspections to verify corrective action.
· Provides information and guidance on city regulations to property owners, residents, contractors, engineers, businesses, and other city departments.
· Receives and responds to citizen complaints and referrals from other agencies through both office and field work.
· Assists with condemnation procedures for substandard or uninhabitable dwellings under the direction of senior staff.
· Documents inspections, contacts, and enforcement actions in accordance with department procedures.
· Contacts responsible parties to notify them of violations and support voluntary compliance.
· Refers properties for abatement when voluntary compliance is not achieved, in accordance with established procedures.
· Assists in preparing documentation for legal proceedings and may testify in court under the direction of senior staff.
· Coordinates with other city departments, including Police, Fire, and Public Services, to address violations and support joint operations.
· Assists in emergency or disaster response efforts related to unsafe structures, hazards, or public safety concerns.
· Participates in community meetings and outreach efforts to educate the public and promote voluntary compliance.
· Builds positive working relationships with homeowners, landlords, tenants, businesses, and community partners through education, outreach, and enforcement.
· Communicates regularly with engineers, contractors, and members of the public to resolve compliance concerns.
· Supports office and administrative functions within the department, including routine computer and documentation tasks.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
· Performs general administrative tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, filing records, and answering phones.
· Participates in required training and continuing education to obtain and maintain certifications and stay current on changes in codes and ordinances.
· Assists other officers and staff when workload, emergencies, or special assignments require.
· Stays current on departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
· Completes work accurately, safely, and efficiently; maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
· Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
· Identifies and reports suggested improvements or areas of concern to the Supervisor.
· Ensures professionalism and excellent customer service in all interactions while representing the City of Greer.
· Demonstrates strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability with coworkers, customers, and the community.
· Supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration within the department and across the organization.
· Represents the department at community events or meetings when requested by the Supervisor.
· Adheres to the Employee Handbook and all applicable policies and procedures.
· Maintains regular, reliable attendance.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, M-F; with additional hours as needed
Salary: Minimum salary $50,725; dependent on experience

· High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
· Vocational or technical training in building construction, inspection, planning, engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
· Experience in building construction, code enforcement, inspections, planning, property maintenance, or a related field is preferred; experience may be substituted with demonstrated aptitude, training, or related coursework.
· Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within one (1) year of employment.
· Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) Zoning Inspector certification within two (2) years of employment.
· Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
